Need help with main living area.
I have an open concept first floor which includes the kitchen, dinning area with nine foot ceilings and the living room problem area that has a seventeen foot ceiling height. The windows are large and relatively close to the floor. I'm thinking of moving the TV to the corner to create a couple of different furniture groupings. I have a couple of brand new love seats and swivel rockers that I would like to include in the design.

Dytecture Sounds like a good plan, do you know the dimension of this room ?

celestepet12 It is gorgeous!

Just wondering, how much space do you have behind the loveseat (between the furniture and the wall with the door and windows)?

tmottola 8'

celestepet12 I'm not physically there, so I can't really say :) But that seems like a lot of dead space... Have you tried spreading out the living room area a little bit? It kind of looks like that area is a bit cramped.

tmottola When spreading out the furniture, it creates even more dead space.....

gkemp i think two different areas is the right direction. However, I also think you should introduce some pieces with some height. Maybe start with hanging 95" window panels and larger pieces of art or a tall bookcase. Had you considered wainscot paneling or tongue & groove planks installed horizontally?

About Time Design I agree about introducing tall furniture and hanging window treatments up high. Some art on the walls would be good too. Have you considered painting the room? A large area rug would also ground the room.

Tres McKinney Design Full length working curtains hung high above all the windows would really warm up the space and make it feel less cavernous. A large scale blue and white or ivory windowpane check fabric or other print would compliment your country look. I would also consider painting the island a smokey blue like the color of the chest your TV is currently sitting over. The island needs to be more grounded and painting it blue will make it more harmonious with the great room.

tmottola I appreciate some of the great ideas. My pictures do not reflect the status of the room. Full length off white, see through curtains have been installed. Most of the current furniture in the room will be replaced when we move full time into the beach house this summer. I am still looking for furniture arrangement ideas utilizing two love seats and two modern swivel rocking chairs.

nononanna The furniture seems off center, somehow. I think it's because I feel like ti should be centered either around the fireplace or the television, but that's impossible since they're next to each other. Is there anyway to change that?

nononanna Sorry - obviously I didn't read your question well enough. Two different areas would be great because then you could center something infromt of the fireplace and the tv both. Somehow that seems important in a big room.

About Time Design Two different seating areas is great. I have one question; What do you invision you and your family doing in this room?
