Futhermore, what do you think of the windows on the roof, the 7 litlle stripes where the entrance is ?

Any more ideas?

Thnx alot.

decoenthusiaste The only shutters that I think would work and look like they are part of such a modern/contemporary home would be rolling shutters, often found on European homes. Also rolling hurricane shutters could work.

N Dobos Architecture I love the rendering and the upper windows. I don't know the house orientation and how far are you in design development. Have you discussed with your architects a bigger roof overhang? It would be a good sun protection in summer, but would let the sun into the house in the winter. Also exterior shutters are more effective than interior.

gokite Very cool design, can't see much about it without a plan, but visually interesting. I like those windows, great idea (if they work). Also, have you though about the large monolithic wall above the drive in second photo?

Aja Mazin What is the purpose[s] of the shutters?
Privacy or storm protection?

Are you planning sliders for access to pool area.
Shutters would not be practical for exterior doors.

Tom Batito Hey everyone.
N Dobos - I dont think a bigger roof overhang would be necessary. its nice as it is. we want the sun.
I agree regarding the exterior shutters. thats exactly what I ment. but which kind? we are
looking for a special and beatiful sulotion. somthng technological.
Gokite - thnx, but in my opinion it would ruin the whole design.
Aja - the purpose of the shutters is privacy and sun protection (in case we would like to make the
a specific room dark in daylight, and so on). no we are not planning on sliders. why? why would
shutters wont be practical for exterior doors? what would be?

I added some more photos of the house.

Aja Mazin Correction:
Shutters would not be practical to use in place of exterior doors.
Aja Mazin Perhaps, this is what you mean, but more technologically advance?

Aja Mazin I await this window treatment

Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Think motorized solar shades are going to be what will work there on the interior. Not sure if there is an exterior application apart from awnings which I don't see there.

blindsdirectcanada Ripplefold Sheers and Drapery is very modern and works well in such large windows .It traverses really well and comes down very easy for cleaning.

Aja Mazin For window treatment that will provide privacy and look streamlined, I you could use RC panels or verticals.

Move the pool to the roof and use an eternity design.
gokite @Aja, what product is the dark gray in top left? I googled RC Panels and get all kinds of radio control stuff...tia
3 months ago ·
Aja Mazin haha!

Skyline Gliding Window Panels
The perfect solution for both large and small window expanses.

RC is remote controlled and refers to the movement of the vertical panels.

I understand what you want, but it is not yet available.

A sustainable door or window with a mirror like reflective exterior surface would achieve the desired effect.

Also, check out how architects are incorporating courtyard gardens and fountains into interior spaces.

Or live in a glass house!

Aja Mazin You gotta rethink your pool!
Tom Batito Aja - appreciate your help! what do you mean by saying live in a glass house?

what would you suggest to do with the pool considering the fact that the roof is not available.
what else than vertical shutters may be suitable?
Aja Mazin Tom,

Your home design is absolutely beautiful!

A cutting edge pool would be an enhancement.

The last pool I posted is on the ground level.

"Growing your home’s equity

People are always looking at ways to increase the value of their real estate. Most people love a pool, and it can be one of the ways to increase the value of your home.

Glass pools are rapidly trending upward.

“Frameless, glass pool walls are at the top end of the affordability scale. There is an increasing trend for glass pool windows, which are now installed on a regular basis in Australia.

A truly frameless glass pool wall is now available,”"

http://bonjourlife.com/transparent-glass-made-swimming-pool/

If you look, you will see that the owners of this house resorted to mini blinds for their window treatments.

In Florida, there are a few new builds that are using a blue reflective glass.

Aja Mazin The 2 Iranian architects who designed this breathtaking mansion outside Tehran obviously failed to come up with a solution to their shutter dilemma:

Aja Mazin Someone needs to invent a way to put shutter vanes between glass panes - it will have to be light weight and vanes will have to pivot directionally driven by a light sensing device.

Creations Nadia Interior Design I agree with Julie Thome Draperies, Inc.!
It would be a shame to cover that beauty!! :)))

AMN If I would've seen this earlier, I would've replied, "define shutters."
midmodfan We had shutters like sturdy venetian blinds. I think they are perfect for a modern house.
avebabe I understand your dilemma. We live in a contemporary house and this was one of the hardest decisions. We opted for motorized solar shades (internal) that match the wall color and are concealed with a cap that was painted to match the walls. Only catch is the maximum length is eight feet, which is a problem for large window expanses. The best solution was to stack 8' lengths side by side.
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. You could also do external solar shades, think Graber do them, and can be motorized.

Carolina Photo To Go LLC All I have to say is it is an absolutely beautiful home! It reminds me of my first home but on a smaller scale. It had 2 levels with a wall of windows on both levels. But there was no technology then- just draperies.

ourfarmhouse Google switchable glass or smart glass...
Really cool stuff. Clear to opaque in the flick of a switch. It's also dimmable.

zenhome Hunter Douglas Designer roller blinds/solar screens would be lovely and enhance your gorgeous windows. i would assume you are looking for a modern look that would be fitting for your home. IMO shutters work better in a more traditional style interior or home. And, they aren't the best for exterior doors.

Good luck!

Aja Mazin ourfarmhouse,

Totally cool!

Thank you for providing that information!

anthip Have you looked into nanotechnology? Like UV reactive glass?

http://www.nanoid.co.uk/nanoglass.html

Or switchable (a.k.a. smart) glass? It uses liquid crystals. Just google smart glass or switchable glass and lots of stuff comes up.

tonystark007 Just some additional information on the glass that goes from frosted to clear. One of its many names is smartglass. It uses electrochromism to switch states. It is a special film sandwiched into two glass panes and you could have plenty of applications. Such as: privacy glass, dimmable glass ( cuts heat load in summer as well as glare which gives some energy savings). Vdeos talk more than words. Check how they did a neat application here the video is from the Company named VarioGlass.

The website has far more neater application:

Arlene Warda, Architecture+Interior Design Hi Tom, This is a great house! beautiful!.. thanks for sharing! I love it's glass exterior! 7 stripes are nice too!... what area, and what country it is, area is it are you living?..

Brenda I don't think plantation shutters look right on a super modern house. I would do solar shades.

Fenstermann LLC-Newport Beach With the smartglass, it is very expensive and is limited to a certain size. Exterior shutters would be the best option for you. We supply both, but these shutters are amazing and will work for your huge windows. Since it is a new construction, hiding the cases in the walls will keep the minimalistic look in place.
libradesigneye Fenstermann has got the right idea if you want dark during day - consult with them, and they will integrate the design as you go.

J & D Interiors There is no reason to build a beautiful, modern home like this and then put shutters on it--unless you need hurricane protection. If you need to have privacy during the day a motorized roller shade can be built into the ceiling-in a trough-that would then be operated remotely or by pushing a button.
Fenstermann LLC-Newport Beach There are some very contemporary roller shutters available that are invisible when they are pulled up. They also increase security, and energy efficiency when in use.
