Need help for my bathroom :|
the house built is still bare. So we canvassed for some materials to be put in.For the bathroom part, i'm a bit confused if maroon is an applicable color for bathrooms, yet i prefer this color because it has this accent i prefer. I'm still under the walling part, i dunno if it's kinda dull or just fine. I thought of adding some mosaic stones to put a little detail on the wall. What do you think about it?
Attached are some photos for the walling part (plan) But for the flooring I still don't have any idea on what to go with it. Any suggestions as well for the flooring? thanks!

olldbobbi I think about all the bathroms that have been tiled in pink, or green, and 20-30 years from when they were tiled they don't look as good. I wouldn't want to use a colored tile other than a neutral. Can you keep your tiles a neutral color, and pick up the maroon in your accessories?

feeny I'm afraid that maroon, like hunter green, makes me think of the 1980's. But that shouldn't stop you if you really love the color.

Natalie Hi---I strongly suggest you forgo the maroon and opt to use only the beige tiles. The mixed accent has a lot of peach; look for an alternative. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

Donata S. Griffith I would stay neutral and accent in a small way with maroon. If you stay neutral you can color in accents .

DIAspoton such strong colors are best left to restrooms in restaurants and dept. stores. they're very pretty and noticeable and fine to see occasionally but i wouldn't want to see them everyday. a neutral, preferably with a soft muted combo of white, beige, taupe and grey leaves color choices wide open and easy to change with the seasons or moods.

Gabberts Design Studio I would leave the maroon out as well. The smaller tile should be the focus, not the larger maroon tiles. If you really love maroon, I would accent in art, rugs, towels. Tile is so permanent, so I would keep it neutral.

carole i agree with that,i think it is best to keep the maroon as an accent color, tiles are not so easy to change and you can use the strip tiles to bring in the color and accesoires

sharmainesiori Thank you for all the suggestions guys! :)
I'm now thinking of the beige as putting up to the walls. and just put maroon mosaic stones to put a little detail in between the tiles..

for the flooring, is it fine to use maroon tiles?
does it coordinate with beige wall?
is it too strong?

thanks again in advance!

lizaf No, sorry NO maroon anywhere except if you must in accessories. It is no longer popular and will instantly date your home and make it harder to sell later. Beige tiles aren't as fresh as white but if you must, make sure they are more alabaster than beige. No maroon mosaics either this is 2013!

DIAspoton if this helps: i recently watched a large bath redo on HGTV. $900,000 home. they tore out a dated bath full of pink tile. i was loving the new black and white tiles including a large paisley on the floor. i was imaging all of the easy color changes with accessories with each season. then they mixed in an emerald green with the balck and white on the walls. i was totally deflated. it was pretty but very taste specific and limiting.

olldbobbi sharmainesiori, seriously, keep your maroon accents to removable things, like towels, decorations, art. You won't be sorry 10 years from now when you want to change things up, I promise.

Granite Grannies I don't see any reason why maroon would't be fine for a bathroom. It's a beautiful color. Any color is ok in any room if you like that color. That's the beauty of color. Maroon is great because you can use your accents to switch it from a brown/maroon scheme to a colorful/maroon scheme to a white/maroon scheme etc. It matches with a lot so don't worry about not being able to change the look of your bathroom down the road.

carole it is a beautifull color, but if you put it with the tiles instead of as tiles, all the above reasons do come into play!!nobody wants to think about moving when they just got a new place/or first home, but you most probably will, still,if you have got your heart set on using it for the floor go for it!!you have to be happy in the house you live in!!and it will look good, you are puttiing a lot of thought with it so please send a picture once its done, would love to see the endresult...

mollythecollie Maroon is a beautiful color. Maybe instead of tiles, use it on painted surfaces. Then later it will be much easier to change. I really like the idea of using maroon towels, artwork with maroon in it, etc. as your accent color. Most importantly this is your home, make sure it is what you want :-) I am sure it will be beautiful when you are finished.

lizaf I agree, colour is subjective & personal, but burgundy/ maroon is going to instantly date your home. It hasn't been stylish since pseudo "heritage" was fashionable in the mid to late '90's. Tiles are expensive fixtures not easily/cheaply or regularly changed. Do you want to be living for the next 10 years with a colour that is already "out" ? I don't mind the smaller lighter mosaic however. It is usually easier to choose your floor tile first as white/alabaster tiles are much easier to put together with anything and then coordinate the feature tile to suit with counter tops and cabinetry. If you must use burgundy, towels and artwork are the easiest and most changeable way to go.
