Backsplash for my kitchen
Finally, my granite has been done, and I really like the look. We have decided to go with the silver sparkle. The next step is the backsplash.
I was thinking something light in color. What’s are your thoughts about mother pearl, or maybe mosaic glass?
Here are some picks. Please, any suggestions?

designideas4me They both seem to be great choices

Dezign Studio Inc The first one goes better. The second option looks a bit busy with the granite top

Imperial Kitchens and Baths, Inc. We would recommend the glass for two reasons. First, if you like to cook the mother of pearl may not hold up well to food and oil splatters at the stove - discoloration and staining may result even with a sealant. And cleaning it may prove to be difficult. Second, with the type of task lighting you have under the cabinets even the little bit of depth in the glass tile will help to even out the "hot spots" whereas the reflective nature of the mother of pearl will cause more glare. Hope this helps.

Scott Design, Inc. The glass will complement the granite in sheen and its natural coloration. The Mother of Pearl is a wonderful material but I feel it is too ornate for this application plus it does not do well around high heat from a stove top.

iadamczyk Thank you all for your help!
I have ordered the samples of both. I do really like the look of mother of pearl, but I do like the glass as well.
I would be worried about the mother of pearl and the cooking area, heat, spaghetti sauce, grease, etc., , therefore I guess I’m leaning towards glass backsplash more.
What color of grout should I go with for it? (for the glass one)
Thank you

DIAspoton the glass looks best. mother of pearl is very pretty for baths and wet bars.seems out of place in the kitchen. talk to the people at the tile store about an inconspicuos grout color. nothing ruins a pretty tile faster than thick, dark grout seams.

Scott Design, Inc. A very light grey will complement both the granite and the glass.

joannpb Just for the heck of it, go to dttiles.com and take a look at their glass mosaic mix called "peonies". While you're there look at their stone and glass tile section; they've got some really interesting combinations.
