Wall sconces...do you recognize them?
3345navyFebruary 8, 2013
Found these wall sconces at an antique shop and the tags states they are by Robert Abbey? I really like them and that is probably the most important aspect, but I am curious if they really are by this person. Is anyone familiar with this designer and can tell me if this really is his work? Please and many thanks.

How old do they feel, normally you can tell there age with a good rub. I can't tell the material from the pic, brass is traditional, replicas are normally in wood. High end originals made by a reputable firm can be gold plated. Never seen or he's of a sold gold one except in the missing Amber Room

They are of good weight and definitely not wood. It is a metal of some sort but unsure if it is brass. A magnet didn't stick to it. The owner used the term "pot metal." Never heard that term until today. The owners appear to be honest people and don't want to mislead me.

Robert Abbey is a well known lighting company that has been in business a long time. At one point in my career I was a dealer of theirs. They are not antiques but are of good quality.

Great! Many thanks. At the end of the day, if I can't buy antiques at least I want to buy quality.
