Need help with pillow selection and adding color
My living room has a blue wood floor. I have neutral furniture and can't seem to get the pillow color or accents right. My room is boring despite purchasing and making so many pillows with no success. I'm looking for a nice fabric or already made pillows. i'm not against new art. Thanks

Interiors International, Inc. I like the white on white look you have going. Check out a store like Home Goods. They have all kinds of pillows. The color blue your using is quite popular so it should not be hard to find ones that are of the shelf.

collettec Outside of the rug, all the colors are cool in here. Leather is cool as is glass. Don't think there's anything wrong with the picture, but would draw from the warmer colors in it and the rug for pillows, throws and other decor. You could change your wall color or drapes to a warmer color for more contrast. Add more texture as well. Perhaps accent the fireplace by painting either the mantel or surround a different color.

Toni Sabatino Hi there! These ready mades from pier one could be fun on the white furniture and move some of the others to the chairs.

Leslie Kreger I love the turquoise and yellowy-green (is it called citron?) colour you have in the large art piece (and the few glass accents on the console.) I would probably look to pop those two colours around the room a bit more with candles, pillows, etc. Looks like you have a large yellowy floor vase in the hallway--maybe try that on the hearth and see how you like it??
Good luck~

shannon Wow, I would like to thank everyone for the great suggestions!!! I am feeling more optimistic about pulling this room together. To Leslie, my camera is not the greatest. That vase is citron but the picture/art is more of a true yellow. I did originally have it in the room but i'm forever moving pieces around the house to different rooms. lol

sands213 I have a suggestion and it would be easy to try. Take the picture of the tree off of the wall and place it on the right hand side of the trunk that is sitting below it. Then add a tall object, (a narrow, tall lamp is what I picture in my mind) maybe one of your tall candle sticks next to it. It would add interest to that corner and a lamp would give light to your seating area. As to the pillows a strong tone on tone geometric would look great.

Keitha This room really has a lovely monochromatic color palette so I can't say that I would recommend a lot of additional color. How about a nice tall glass jar filled with shells, corks, etc. on the table between the 2 club chairs. The accessories on the mantel look a little fussy. Remove the jack and simply shift the cranes over a little and eliminate the small items that are grouped with the candlestick and plant... A very nice room!

shannon thanks sands213 and Keitha. The jack was on the table between the 2 chairs. I moved it to try a plant on that table and forgot to move it back. You both had some great ideas for me to try. I'm gonna try and make it to home goods this weekend and hopefully with all these suggestions, I can add some nice changes to my room. I'm currently snowed in!!!

Gazy and associates the blue on the floor will be great if it can appear on the pillows..u can have an accent wall but not the fire place.. its seem cool to me.. u can accent where the funiture piece is.. and the art work there so i suggest u accent wit orange but make it deeper to showcase both the funiture and art piece

Keitha Shannon, sorry to hear that you Are snowed in BUT just think of all the great decorating ideas you can get while you are sitting around watching the snow fall!

pruner It is a nice room but I agree the neutrals could have a colour injection. You have two art works and the floor colour to draw inspration from to add extra colour, texture, lighting, warmth and pop! Try reversing the club chairs and armless chairs for a cosier look and think about changing the rug to one with more colour. A rectangular wooden coffee table would also add some colour and anchor the area. Add cushions in a variety of coordinating styles, drape a 'throw' on the large lounge and then some lighting around the room - a wooden base instead of ceramic white and coordinating low lamps beside the seating, plus one on the unit in the corner to accentuate that artwork and add 3 simple and coordinating sculptural largish vases to the other side of the unit and a little 'something' on the little round table). The metal pieces on the mantle are also 'cold' - bring it together with pops of colour as well.

Genevieve you have a beautiful glass vase in the hallway I would consider that shade for your pillows/cushions

sands213 Two more things, your room is beautiful! And ikat fabric would look great with your rug.

snowboundflower Put a great frame around the multi colored picture; sconces on the wall next to the pic; I think some large solid color pots with some t ype of greenery would fill up all the white space.

Trish It''s beautiful. STOP!

cjohnston I LOVE your room! I think bright colored pillows would not be at home in such a calm and soothing room. The only problem I see is that the blue from the floor needs to be worked in throughout the room. Your art is fabulous and has just the right amount of punch. Consider blue panels for your curtains and pillows with various blue tones.

Gazy and associates i agree wit cjonhston on the harbour pillow covers.. they will totally look great.. to match the floor and sofas

aniluap2 It looks beautiful with the subtle pops of color. The blue floor adds a lot and makes it unexpected. Don't add to much or you will ruin the understated elegance. Maybe one or two more blue pillows but don't make it too contrived . You don't want to OVER DECORATE! MHO

Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. I like what you have going on, I love the floor color. I notice that you have different drapes in the same room...I would replace all those white drapes with drapes in either linen or duping in the blue from the paintings ...something like this one...http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/peacockfeathers

I would not introduce any other colors. I think the play of the 2 blues in the room with all those whites is enough. Pillows in the same blue as the drapes is al you would need. I would avoid adding any other pattern in there either as you already have a few there.

sam0705 Hi -
Love your rooms and the ikat pillows suggested.
Where is your rug from? Thanks!

blindsdirectcanada I would recommend raising the drapery a few inches higher. It should be about 6'' above the window. I would also recommend a Roman shade for color.

thekk I agree, please move that vase in from the hallway to your hearth! You can do it now even while snowed in, and start to see how some different textures and finishes can make things pop. The glass would look great. You might also consider a glossy pot for a plant in a yellow green pot. Something like this only more green:

Color Zen I love your room!! It is almost there... I would shift the art to contemporary prints like these from Minted. And, the first pillows that come to mind are Nate Berkus' new collection at Target. I think they are perfect! I am all for bright color, but i don't that that's the answer in this case. Instead i would layer textures and subtle tones. Good luck! Let us know how this beauty turns out.

lovliny I really like your room but would consider painting the walls a blue-gray (matching the hue of the floor) which would bring everything in the room to life.

shannon Thanks again to all for the help. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to offer help. Still snowed in!! (CT) but plan to take all this great advice and go shopping this coming week. Checking out some options on line. I will update a picture soon --- see if I'm heading in the right direction. To sam0705, the rug is from Ballard designs. Its indoor/outdoor which was my only option because I have chihuahuas and I wanted to be able to clean it if needed. So far no accidents lol

shannon how about these pillows for the 2 white chairs?

Victoria Pierce Love the room... one easy update... clear off the mantel and put a tall piece on the hearth.. maybe your vase with tall branches that are taller than the mantel... cleaner look.. I am low clutter person.. :-)

fancee44 Beautiful floor. I would definitely play with the browns and darker blues in this space. You have nice pieces but just need a splash of color to make the room pop. Maybe you can tone down the fireplace with a darker paint, if that isn't and option then paint the mantel the color of your furniture pieces to drown out some of the white. Ever thought about soft thin sheers on the windows? I like the panels that you have now but maybe you can add some wooden blinds to brake up the whites. Silver is also beautiful with the blue slate floor. Silver, white and blues would have a more elegant look. Good luck with your decision and I hope to see the finished results.

sands213 I do like the pillows, where did you find them? They would look great on the chairs but they would work other places too!
