What is missing?
What pattern and colour should I add in additional future accent pillows? What is missing in the room? Btw I sewed these pillow cases and I am not crafty :))

Alison Jordan I like the purple you start on the table. something that has texture and put them behind the great grey feathers . also paint the hallway a contrasting color to give the room depth. butter or a yellowish cream would look nice with the black accessories and would play with the oval side table and bring our the violet tones.
groveraxle Congrats on your pillow covers. Maybe sew a yellow ochre pillow or two to tie in the painting and the table.

The painting needs to be a couple inches lower. Also consider moving it to the left and stacking two small prints, one above the other to its right, so the whole composition is centered on that wall.
Interiors International, Inc. Good job on the pillows. I would replace that coffee table it is killing the room.
sondramartina Eventually I will replace coffee table but I have to find the way to convince my husband since the table was purchased last summer :p. Or he can make an oval table top once the weather gets nicer for work in the garage :).
Groveraxle I like the idea about adding two more arts on the side because I like this painting but it is kind of small for this wall. I am moving it down right now.
Interiors International, Inc. It isn't a bad coffee table just too big and the wrong shape. If you want a new one you could do the OOPS I TRIPPED trick and break it. I have to confess I have done that. ;-)
Keitha Interiors Int. is right... The coffee table needs to go!
Aggie Purvinska Yeah, something is up with the table, I like the white, the shape, but it is too high, maybe you can hacksaw some 5" off the legs?
sondramartina Aggie,it is deceiving. It is about 2" lower than seats.
Lol interiors .We are planning to make dining room table top so that would be the chance for an oval coffee table top .

Amy Barnwell A cube coffee table in a natural weave, would be great.

G3 Studios Decorative Painting Lots of good comments. Adding art would be a great idea. I also liked the idea of getting rid of coffee table and painting that back hallway. Maybe that's where that ochre can be slipped back into the scheme.

eagledzines What does anyone think of these?

eagledzines Or this one.
misspeggy7 I think a big, chunky, wooden bowl on the coffee table. It will be a good balance from the modern sleek, to something earthy. Sometimes opposites do attract...Yep, a big, chunky wooden bowl.
janeyfulloffun Tile the top of the table or paint it.Get rid of the white. Also ditch or dye the white throw. Put a textury big basket under the table so it has some heft. The you can keep a bunch of stuff in there, too. That person above i totally right about the art. You need more on that wall and centering the too high painting is predictable.
sondramartina Just few days ago there was much larger painting on that wall that's why is this one hanging predictably high at the moment :p and I don't want big hole to be seen,I have to plug it before I move this one.
And I don't like tiles on any table but thank you.
Keitha Sondra, the room is really lovely but I think that your eye is immediately drawn to the two stark white objects in the room and from the picture it looks as if the coffee table is just too large. You are so close to a cohesive design and with these changes you will have a terrific room.
lisacabinetree Lower the painting about 5" or so...
lisacabinetree Sorry... Couldn't finish my message for some reason. I see you already commented on lowering the picture. Love the furry throw -works well with the white/grey pattern pillows. Maybe look for something tall to put in the far corner behind the sofa - painted bamboo stalks, some type of sculpture, whatever it is should be 4-5feet tall by the looks of the scale of your room
3 months ago · ·
twylahaj Part of me is saying to keep everything except the carpet. Change that out for something white to bring the eye down and the rest of the white will seem intentional and important. Of course, the reality is that I think it would be very pretty that way but wouldn't want to have to try to keep it clean myself! Definitely the painting move and the extra artwork. Maybe also something tall, skinny, and architectural on the window wall?
sondramartina Keitha thank you for the advice. I do always see the white table as very stark but never noticed second one. Is that the white blanket ? That's easy change. What should I put instead?
dspedersen1 Hi,
Keitha Yes Sondra I was referring to the white throw and what an easy fix. What do you think of a red/ orange throw to tie in with your pillows or simply a soft gray?
sondramartina i would also like to ask you guys this. I would like to have this chair but it comes in fuscia or purple which I don't think would look good with this rug, what do you think guys? My rug is not true red,it has pinkish undertone.I love purple chair. I still have one more month to return this gray chair.
Keitha I do really like the chair and think you are right in the fact that it would not go with the rug . Go with the one you love!

marlene57 Would like to see a contemporary rug in your space. Your current rug just seems too traditional for your furniture.

pie1984 Maybe yellow... yellow goes great with gray! :)
sondramartina I like these rooms with mix of oriental rug and modern furniture pieces.I might get a new rug later .No matter which chair I choose(my existing dark gray or black swan ) it should work with almost any rug.
Keitha Sondra, you are right! I'm having 2nd thoughts about my advice on replacing the rug. It might just work!
sondramartina Keitha do you vote for black leather swan chair(leather sofa and lather chair ) or my gray fabric chair? Sorry to bug you .
Susanna I remember this room with the Paris picture! Wow, you have done a great job and so happy you did not go with the yellow so many suggested.

I think your instincts were correct when you placed the purple vase on the table. Purple is the perfect color to add. I think I see black (or navy?) in the carpet? Either would be a great addition to make the other colors really look rich.

I would send the gray chair back. It's a different gray and too boxy. I vote black chair and purple accents.
Love what you have done!
www.etsy.com/shop/NewJerseyAccents Think the painting you love needs a mat. Framed as is, it just doesn't have the presence it should!
Susanna Is the background of the rug gray or teal? Teal would be beautiful with the purple, black, gray and rust.

Alison Jordan One statement chair in a pop of color is always great - though I think the neutral chair is more practical. A big pillow is easier to swap in and out if you tire of the purple and want another accent color like peacock next year.

Color Specialist for Benjamin Moore - Middle East I love the monochrome sofa/walls. i like the coffee table as well, but sure I would whack my knee on if I were passing through! Pop the top off and have it cut down...or spray a coat of primer and a couple coats of high-gloss paint on that round-ish birch table instead as you need to avoid sharp corners in a tight space. I would bring the floor lamp out from behind the sofa and put it to the left (facing). I see your color-trail from the painting to the rug then pillows, but i dont care for the position of the painting....its too small or lonely. this is where you can add texture and/or color in a very bold statement! take your time art shopping, take your own canvas class just for this wall...or perhaps photography. smaller rooms get cluttered so easy...i suggest LARGER pillows...they will especially masque an ikea-esque sofa. (not that i dont like them because i have one myself ;) ) and keep the pillows monochrome with the sofa...just incorporate texture here. I lovethe hall pics...just group them instead of sreding them out...grouping adds value to the look-like you have a collection. please keep us posted with your updates...we would love to see pics of your changes!

sam0705 Don't replace the rug! Love it and the mix.
pollyannagal Go for the gorgeous purple chair - the grey one is too similar but not the same as the sofa and it's all very grey and boxy. If you are worried about the purple being too bold go for the black and add a purple cushion, but definitely get the butterfly chair. Then paint the hall and the wall behind the sofa either teal or purple. Change the top of the coffee table as you suggested, and find somewhere else to hang the art that's above the sofa. Hope you will post some pictures of your progress.
sondramartina how is purple with this rug going to look like? Black is safer.
Color Specialist, thank. Moved and grouped. Looks way better
3 months ago ·
Keitha Sondra, do you think this will work... Push your gray club chair all the way to the right so that it is almost in a "U" shape with the sectional (divided by your existing end table) ... Then, try to picture the swan chair where your club chair was.... Would that be too crowded if you get a new coffee table? Anyway, to answer your earlier question I think the black swan chair would be the best choice in the grand scheme of things. You could use it many places and would not get tired of the color but definitely go for that color in "easy to change" accessories and pillows! I hope I haven't confused things???
judyg Have you tried the round end table as a coffee table and the white table as an end table at the foot of the chaise?
Susanna Love the rug! Where did you find it? Just gorgeous. Now that I see the colors, I still vote for the black chair and adding that teal. You could change everything in the room at a later date and the black chair will still work, whereas the purple might not.
Can you find another company who sells the black chair that might be more flexible about trying it? Non-returnable is never fun.
Keitha Simple great idea Judyg, Being snowed in gives you plenty of time to see the little things!
judyg Keitha, and you know I am snowed in, how? Are you near by? Just checked your location. Guess you are not near by. I am lulled by the noise from my generator and, as it is 5:45 , my wine. Long, long, long day. :>)

We had friends years ago from Chattanooga, (sp?). Loved their accent.

cjohnston I love your room and how you've mixed the various styles. Perhaps you could try a couple round ottomans instead of the coffee table, to soften the angles.
carol02 I agree with other comments, but I think you need some plants. To me adding green plants really pull a room together. Sansaveria (snake plant) is almost kill proof and will survive in low light. Hope this helps. You already have a nice room!

JoAnn Brennan Are there any showers completely done in full length granite?
JoAnn Brennan Not enough color pop. To much gray. Needs orange/yellow maybe even a touch of lime green above entrance way and a touch more on the main wall where the picture is. Might use some kind of plates, etc.
JoAnn Brennan Also get rid of that area rug.
sondramartina So I went to the store to see that swan chair. I did not like it much (feel and comfort) and I can't even try it at home,so too bad. This coffee table is almost 4 ' long so it can not be used as end table. And round end table is small So I will keep looking if there is better chair to be found for under 800 $,that is our budget .if not I will keep my gray chair and just get an oval table and some art. I might add some snake plant as carol suggested ,in that corner ,that are cool looking.
clobel1972 What you've got so far is a great neutral background that's very workable. Take your inspiration from the glass vase, that purple in a splash or 2 will liven up the greys and oranges and look terrific! Your extra cushions perhaps? If you go for purple, dress window in purple voile drapes instead of the white. The table's not quite right, too tall and skinny proportions, little on the large side from the pic for easy manoeurvring and stretching legs out. Would love to see a chunky wooden table here, rustic or modern would both work. Would tie in beautifully with the oranges, and with the greys and purple would give the whole look that modern twist I can see you like. The white on your cushions, lamp, throw and cornicings lifts the grey beautifully, keep those. I agree with the comment above, a plant would look great by this window and flourish in all that light.
Keitha Glad you could see the swan chair and try it out.... On to another idea. Still thinking of Judyg idea of moving the white coffee table. Looks like you might have room to install it at the end of sofa running the long end along the window. Push a nice pouf ottoman or something similar to cjohnson's suggestion partially under the table and accessorize the top with a few large items. Install a nice small table besides the club chair and search for the perfect coffee table. With the pops of orange and purple that others have suggested your room will look great!

manvisudan Few table lamps and change the carpet to sum grey black rug...
pollyannagal The shape of these chairs is much better than the square one - are they comfy? I think the red would be too much with the rug so would chose the black.
carolins Hi,
I do like the grey walls and the sofa. I even like the coffee table, but the shape and size aren't right. Ah well, you know that.
What I don't like is the combination painting/rug/red(ish) cushions. The colour combination makes my face go weird ;-) I wanted to suggest to move the painting to the hall, but I see you're happy with the hall art now grouped. Perhaps you can move the painting to another wall in this room? And go for something with less red tints in it?
The purple vase shows that purple really goes well in your room.

The chairs you've upped in your latest comment.... hmm, not a big fan. Not 'trendy' enough I should say. And a bit 'heavy'. What about this one:

Keitha Sondra, like the style of the last chairs you posted but I think the scale is a little small in context to the sectional but I'm really not a fan of carolins suggestion, sorry :-(. I guess I just like what you have!
carolins I meant to say 'go for something above the sofa with less reds in it' ;-)

PaintColorHelp.com Dallas I must be crazy, because I just don't see a lot 'wrong' with this room. Do agree, though with suggestions to perhaps matte the print. I'd add a touch of the aqua from the rug for variety, maybe in replacement pillows. I wouldn't try to force the addition of purple, since I don't see it anywhere else. If you want to introduce it, find a print or piece that combines purple with one of your other existing colors. The purple is then your tertiary color, with the coral red being the most visible, the aqua the secondary accent. FYI on the repro Swan chair - depending on the maker, be careful. The one I bought broke within 6 months and I'm not very heavy at all! The internal construction was such that it couldn't even be repaired. Email me offline if you are interested and I can tell you the brand I purchased.

dogbrain Not a fan of the tub like chairs . I do like the grey one that you currently have. I think that it will endure the test of time
3 months ago · ·
Susanna I love club chairs. They are so comfortable, especially if they swivel. I like your last two posted ones. I prefer the black (or dark gray one) on the right. I think that chair, with the splashes of light teal and purple, would be beautiful. By the way, just out of curiosity, what are the little silver box things on the wall?

pollyannagal Wow you got that new chair in quickly! It looks great and I love the new picture - much calmer than the red one. Would love to see a couple of purple cushions on the sofa in addition to the grey & white ones. Something with a nice texture to contrast with the leather.
sondramartina I was not fan of tub chairs either but this one looks good in my room and it is very comfy.

putter2 Find an orange shade for the overhead fixture, lower the painting as someone mentioned, maybe flank it with two smaller ones. A round glass coffee table would add a new shape, and I think white moulding around the door would break up all the gray. Like the idea of painting the hall a warmer color, to set this room apart. A brighter rug at some point would give a punch, but I'm a fan of orientals.....
Luxurious Finds The walls in this room are way too dark - I would change the paint color to something in the terracotta family to lighten the room - the coffee table is a light spot in a dark room (keep it) - place the rug at an angle to ground the space.
White and gray stripes would be good in the hallway. - Luxurious Finds 407-923-6784

Keitha Sondra.. Love your changes and yes, I like the new chair very much. Amazing how a picture from a different angle can change everything! I even think your white coffee table looks nice and doesn't look too large at all. Right on with the new art !
Susanna Uh oh....what happened to the artwork? It's like going from color television to black and white. I'm so depressed......oh gosh.....please bring it back, or something like it. :-) This room needed the color relief from all the gray and it unified the room with the rug.

Hurray for the chair though! That is a definite win. So...I'm eating chocolate to deal with the stress of picture loss and raising a glass of champagne to toast the new chair! Clink! :-)

Susan Mills Design Susanna you are having a decadent Sunday! Ta da! Clink!
Susanna Susan...Ha! Yes! The wind is howling here, the temperature is too cold to go anywhere, it's Sunday, and I have a million things I should be doing. What better time to wander the virtual rooms of Houzz!

The champagne is only a glassful, left over in the frig. from a dinner party last night, but it does feel decadent. Add that to the dark chocolate bar I found that has candied orange peel in it, the computer assistance of my cat Linguini, Tony Bennett duets on the stereo, and the lovely people on Houzz, and this afternoon is turning itself around! In fact, I didn't even look to see why my husband Gianni walked through with his power saw. Normally, that would throw me into supervisor mode or CIA interrogator.

Thank you for following my Pinterest and Houzz. That was a nice compliment. clink!

Susan Mills Design Susanna, you should be a writer, my heart skipped a beat when the husband walked in with a chainsaw, while you sipped champagne and nibble chocolates. My love for murder mysteries I guess!
Susanna LOL Susan! Ha! Not to worry, I am fine. Unpacking after the move, so he carried tools to the garage. Don't ask me why the box marked "garage" ended up in the dining room. Next time I am giving up on the alphabet and drawing graphic symbols on the boxes!

Actually, I have a degree in English and a BFA in art. Good guess! I planned to write and illustrate children's books but, you know what they say about plans. So far, my career hasn't gone there yet.

I have used both degrees, though, and now am working on the screenplay for a documentary art film. It does involve a murder mystery! I guess it is starting to affect my lifestyle...champagne, chocolates, power saws.....the drama spills over! Although, my life seems more Woody Allen than Film Noir. :-)

Apologies, Sondra, for the off-topic conversation. Looking forward to the new photos when you finish!

Beverly Hullender sondramartina: My thought is that the art is not scaled properly. Without replacing it, using additional pieces on the wall will increase the visual size of it and be more in proportion to the sofa and the large area rug on the floor. A glass coffee table (with some rounded edges or even shape) will open the floor space and help the "boxy" look that you tend to have going on. A couple, or three, accent pillows (yellow and purple would work nice!) will capture the circular light fixture (repeating the shape), work with the yellow in the print and the lovely glass on your end table. Check the height of your wall art (easy measure is "center of the face (nose) of an average height person (5'7") to the center of your piece (or group)). That's easiest for me since I happen to be 5'7"! Good luck and looking forward to seeing the 'FINAL" picture! :)

curraghgirl I would love to try moving sectional with it's back to the windows- move tub chair to left of picture ( which is really nice) at an angle towards window - I would then put a small dresser/entry type table under picture with a small lamp . I think a shag type rug ( creamy color) would be nice with a low modern dark wooden coffee table. Put a large bowl /accent piece with bold color on coffee table. Deep orange/red pillows - and a soft textured throw.I think it would open the room and draw your eyes toward the light as you enter the room.

designer75 Consider replacing the Couch, rug and the single sitting chair. The couch because it is taking up your window space and breaks your view to the outside. The couch is fluffy and doesn't compliment the sharp lines of your passage walk through or centre coffee table and the sitting chair would look better with no arms, something like the leather butterfly chair from Carolins post. The rug is making the floor space busy, consider changing to a block colour or nothing at all. In doing so a glass top coffee table will give the impression of space and make the most of the new rug you place down. Leave the room colour, lights, curtains and change colours daily/weekly with fresh flowers.

Apartment 46 for the Home So you asked for what was missing and suddenly there is a really long string of emails telling you to get rid of your coffee table and get a new couch? I also think that the first few folks covered the picture scale and you addressed that and I feel so bad that it continued! I don't think you need a new couch. Or chair. The table should be round/er and scaled smaller, yes. I deal with many husbands/partners who are not amused that basically new furniture isn't working. Craigslist and consignment is where my clients end up posting the stuff that didn't work to put that money into the the "right" piece. It's a really common mistake to see it somewhere and get it home and it's not quite right. I love that your husband can make a top! That's fantastic. I always suggest glass in a smaller space as it takes up no visual weight. If you use tempered, it's clean, safe and yes, you can put your feet on it. We do at home.:)

Maybe I'm crazy but the rug is AMAZING and the idea of having a purple chair in that mix is also very appealing to me, but then, I was never hired for my strong belief in matching things. I would definitely suggest yellow pillows, but more mustard, and not sunshine. Also West Elm has these great silk pillows that are so fun and bring a lot of soul into the room. You are absolutely right in saying you can't please everyone and you should never want to. All we are is opinions to your question. Whether professional designers or fellow posters, we are speaking from our own tastes and preferences and at the end of the day, it's your sanctuary to live in and love.

horsepaint56 Nice job on the pillows. I was thinking you could use the blues in the rug somewhere. Maybe paint the wall behind the couch in the turquoise blue color in the rug. The gray is a really cold color and although the red and orange accents warm it up, it still appears cold with all of the white. A red is also nice on one wall and a bit warmer than the turquoise, but might be too much with the painting. The purple glass vase is a nice touch, purple is my favorite color. If you have the money, then upholstering the chair in a really nice print would do lots for the overall warmth and welcoming of the room. Very nice overall appearance.
eagledzines I love the red. A vibrant red is the life of a gray room. In these pictures, notice the shade of the red and how it is used in these two rooms.

One room has a whole wall painted red making a big bold statement. Also, a large bold picture is used on the wall. It is not a shy color to be played down by the size of the elements in the room. White is used as well.

In the next picture, notice the large vibrant color drapes. Notice also, the different shades of gray that are used as well as white.

These vibrant colors work much better with gray than a drab red, since gray is already a drab color.

groveraxle OK, sondramartina, you're making yourself crazy again. Listen to me: YOU HAVE EXCELLENT INSTINCTS. The last pic you posted with the new chair and the old art that you stole from your son looks great. Calm, tasteful, soothing. Throw in a couple of purple pillows and live with it for awhile. ;-)

sondramartina Hi Groveraxle,I was hoping you won't find me this time. :))))).
LOL Artistea and thanks for the truffle. I also like dark chocolate with hint of chilli pepper or sea salt. Lindt.
@apartment 46,you are correct. Most of the answers were covered in the beginning, but some people just microwaved some popcorn hoping for free entertainment. :-p

lpsv I absolutely LOVE your new chair.....really softens the floor plan! Great call. Both looks are great and easily changed out depending on mood or season! If/when you switch out to your first look with the rustic painting, I was going to suggest painting the wall that goes out to hallway a rustic red-orange that compliments the rug + painting. You can easily put a colored runner (solid or print) in the middle of the white coffee table and top off with an oblong earthy wooden bowl. Maybe baskets underneath for blankets and such. You could also "frame" the rustic painting with a painted backdrop of creamy yellow or ochre. That will bring warmth to that focal wall, help fill in the negative space and really make the gray AND art pop! Love your rug.....whole room has a really great feel. Good luck!

jerry1903 not sue if that picture works alone. Neds to be lowered and maybe accent it with something on each side. the wall could be more of a show piece I agree with other comments that the coffee table ruins the look. Love the pillow and another accent color could be a turqoise color.

dragoness I think the only things i would add would be a large floor plant and maybe a candle scape on the coffee table. I love what you have done but I think it needs a little personal detail maybe a piece of sculpture or vacation memento.

Stacey Taylor I like the rug. I like the room. It's Eclectic. Some people just don't get it, because it's not their style and they are trying to direct you on how to change your space to their style, but don't listen because your room looks great! By looking at this photo it's clear you know what you are doing when it comes to design, and really don't need anyone else's opinion. I may not be the world's best interior designer, but I do have a degree in it & have worked in hospitality design for a couple years, so hopefully my opinion on your skill level means something. Add whatever you like, & I'm confident you have the skills to know if it works in the space or not. Great work!

christmas12 am no professional but it's a matter of personal preference between colorful vs monochromatic. I prefer the first photo with all the orange...nice place!

bdarrow Definitely, change out the coffee table to a smaller, round, glass one and then put a dish and a low flower arrangement on it.

ganeil When I first saw this I thought wow its very similar to mine but I've gone bold colors. I bought the couch first, then saw the picture and fell in love with that...so colors for the walls and accesories came off those two pieces.

theanoplots73 Better paint the wall in a brighter colour, what about white!

Marian de la Cuadra First of all your have great furniture but I believe together it may be bringing itself down.. The picture above the sofa I believe would be better if it were three black and white pictures with black frames. Make sure they have white mat around the pictures to bring some life to the wall. Second if you could bring in if possible an other chair with some kind of print or tweed in black and white or grey and white. As far as your table if could get a version of the one to the side of the sofa to bring in a little other texture. One last thing change the area rug bring in a white or off white shag type. One that feels great on the feet.

B&G Home Interiors I would suggest a pop of color. Possibly a yellow ochcre Pillow, lacquere tray, accessories and throw will complete and add that missing punch

Kathryn Peltier Design Wow, I suppose you really don't need another opinion, but here goes: I think the room looks nice, I don't find the coffee table out of scale since the new chair allowed you to arrange the room differently, and I love the rug. I think the scale of the new art is nice, but it sounds like you may go back to the painting with a couple of additional pieces. Think about making one of these an interesting object, either hung directly on the wall or perhaps a small, simple shelf for an objet d'art.

I, too, would pick up the coral color in the rug. I would find a beautiful bowl or large round vase (the big kind with a little neck) in a bright coral for the coffee table. I think a large basket would be a nice counterpoint to all of the sleekness, perhaps at the end of the sectional. If you want additional color, I think the mustard yellow would be pretty, along with the teal of the rug. How about a kilim-covered pillow to kind of mirror the colors and patterns of the rug? I also think a dose of a completely unexpected color - like the purple - can really liven a room and make it look collected over time. You just need some more personal things in the room - it looks a little "showroom". Shop the rest of your house and see what you can find - bet you'll come up with something! With all that being said, you've done a really nice job so far!

Judit Why not bring some fresh green colour into the picture? Cushions and plants!

Beverly Hullender ganeil: You've done a beautiful job! I like the repeating of the accent colors (Wall, sofa, floor) and my only criticism would be to get that rug centered under the sofa--not the coffee table! Now, I realize that I don't see the whole room, but I'm pretty sure that the rug would work best under ALL of the sofa, not just the cut-in section. Here's a slightly different option: put the rug on an angle. Just takes a couple of strong friends to let you try out some different angles. Often, putting something a little bit askew causes it to truly tie EVERYTHING together! Give it a shot! If you don't like, you just change it again! Get you a white, fluffy throw for your sofa to make that lampshade POP, too!

Lekia Hall I love your room. The one thing that stands out as "wrong" to me is the direction of the rug. I suggest turning it horizonally to fill up the space more. I think the room and pieces would look more cohesive this way.
ganeil Thanks Beverly & Lekia! I agree! I'm having a problem keeping the rug from bunching up. I need a couple strong friends to help me get it under the couch. Hoping that will also help with the bunching. Lekia have had it in both directions. :) have not tried angling it though! Will give that a try also. Thanks! This is still a work in progress. I have big wall with 25' windows. Bought some cheap insulted curtains due to cold until I can find just the right ones. That's the next challenge :)

Gail Elwyn A lighter rug and a lighter colored, larger piece of artwork. The wall is too big for the art and it isn't too heavy of a color in there. Either lighten the wall color or lighten the rug. Too much dark heavy accents is making the white table stand out. I like the table.

ammer I like the table, and I see the legs are silver.
Why not hang a long mirror, and paint the fram a color from your room or maybe black.
Put the mirror vertical on the wall behind the chair to the right of the picture you posted.

Kathryn Peltier Design What do your chairs look like? Are they upholstered? What color? What about the table - same questions? Off the top of my head, I would say another oriental rug which would have the same colors would be nice. If the chairs are a color, you could go with a gray rug, playing off of the couch. If you prefer a solid color but the chairs and table are neutral, then I would try to find something in the coral color.
sondramartina Kathryn i opened new topic with this question. Thanks for the advice. Chairs will be neutral, and table probably medium light wood.
alicetgv If chairs are neutral and table is square and medium light wood you can put in a darker rug, chose navy and red accents on table like red roses in a white vase.
I would make few changes in the living: repaint the room in a lighter color; add red (or better coral color) pillows, a smaller round glass/wooden coffee table; few accessories like a framed picture, a statuette. a candle etc. I would keep the rug, the grey & white pillows, the black & white picture, the sofa & chair.

cohoek What if you bought a chunky piece of glass as your tabletop instead of the white? Maybe secondhand? I'm all for recycling stuff... I love the rug, it ties everything together. I would try to get more red in the room, not the orangy color in the painting. Try a red throw on the couch, see if it works. Got any red clothes? put them around a pillow and try it out. The style of the painting and de orangy pillows are differen t from the rug. The rug is more ethnic, try to find stuff in that direction...
