Small two bedroom unit
Hi We are just about to renovate a small two bedroom unit and are wondering two things....with the floor would tiles make it look larger or would wooden floor be better and are we better to go a lighter colour on the walls.

creeser I think you could go with either wood or tile, but if you went with tile, the size would make a difference. Also, I have been told that with tile, laying it on the diagonal would make a room larger. Not sure if that holds true with hardwood or not. Also, I would think lighter walls would keep it feeling more open.

Amy Stanley Either flooring would work, the trick to making it seem larger is consistency. If all floors flow together then the space is unified and not broken up. Tile tends to be a cooler option but so easy to care for. They actually have tile that looks like wood now that might work and let you have both. As for wall color it is an old wives tale that light walls make a space bigger, furniture placement and design really add to this. The depth of a color can make a difference between making a space feel cool or warm same with wood vs light colored tile. For example a darker wall color like charcoal in a bedroom with white bedding and window treatment can feel warm and airy at the same time. Heavy large pieces of furniture vs. scaled down pieces can change the look of a room as well..Do you have any photos?

Dytecture Also take note of what is common in your area and try to incorporate the same flooring material for resale purposes.
