Mushroom lamp
I'm trying to find out where this lamp was made and how old it is. Any ideas?

apple_pie_order Is it glass or plastic? Switch at the bulb or on the cord? Ceramic or glass base? Does the cord plug have same-size prongs or is one larger than the other?

audgerm Thank you for your questions! It has a glass base and shade (globe?)and has the switch on the cord. The plug is 220v.

audgerm I bought it in Germany but was guessing it may be from Sweden, Italy?

apple_pie_order It looks 1980's to me, high fashion Italian or Swedish, maybe Finnish. But that is just a guess. Any lettering on the bulb's socket might be in the language of the manufacturer. I don't remember if European manufacturers use the same plug style and bulb sizes nowadays.

Good luck!

audgerm This is blown glass with a smooth feel...very hard to see from the pics. But the first link that you sent brought back some great memories:). I used to make little window decos with my grandmother that were crashed glass/plastic. Great times!
I think that this lamp is either 1960s or 1970s based on the other items that were for sale with it. Thank you for the links! I have been all over the Internet looking for info.

lefty47 HI --- You might have something from the 20's or 30's or it might be from the 60's . It could be from the Arts and Craft's era . Just because you got it in Germany doesn't mean it comes from there .You have to find some experts in Antiques , like maybe an auction house that deals with higher end items or a shop that has antique lamps and so on . There should be somewhere or someone you can take it to , to have it looked over . I am not saying it is an antique ( item has to be 100 yrs and over ) but it is vintage for sure and someone in the know can help you .Have you done any searches on the internet , like Ebay or just a general search for antique or vintage muchroom lamps ? Anyway it would be interesting to know -- hopefully it's worth a fortune ! It is kinda cool ,isn't it ?

audgerm Lefty47- I bought it at sort of a junk/antique place. I will be back in the US in a few months and look forward to checking with someone there to find out more. I have been online a lot but just can't find the right one! The base is not skinny like most mushroom lamps which is why I thought it may be Italian? Maybe Murano? But is isn't as "fine" as most Murano glass. Thanks for checking it out...it is cool huh?! If it is worth a fortune, I'll let you know:)

lefty47 HI - Audgerm -- OK ,I have been doing a search and this is as close as I have come - it might be west german or italian art glass - possibly Art Deco (1920's)-- I think you might have something quite rare and maybe worth about 30 thousand but can't get better info . Send some photos and info to -- Christie's.com or Artdecocollection.com -- maybe they can pinpoint it for you. Here's hoping and Good Luck !

feeny Yes, the closest I found in a quickie search was an art nouveau amber mushroom lamp with a more elongated shape for sale on e-bay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Glass-Amber-Marble-Effect-Mushroom-Lamp-Art-Nouveau-Deco-Galle-Murano-/140890822776?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Lamps&hash=item20cdbf5878

Good luck tracking it down!

audgerm How awesome would that be! Thanks for the info. I will definitely continue the search for info on the lamp. Here's to hoping you are right on the $:)

audgerm Thanks feeny! The Murano lamp is built similarly...the closest I've seen to mine! Thanks!

hollybar I've seen German "Fat Lava" mushroom/toadstool lamps with that proportion & shape, but never one done in glass or done so well. It strikes me as Italian or maybe French. (although the French lamps it reminds me of are in resin from the 70's)
Hope you find out and let us all know.
