What is wrong with this kitchen ceiling & what should I change?
I am buying a house with a ceiling that has rustic beams and smooth wood in between. It really does not feel right with the rest of the house. Any ideas of what to do? Paint out the pine boards and leave the beams? Paint the beams and leave the pine boards?

Creations Nadia Interior Design you can leave the beams and dry wall the rest of the ceiling :)))

AMN If, as you say, the rustic style doesn't fit the rest of the home, then I would start by painting the tongue and groove wood and leave the beams natural. See how that feels. That fluorescent light has to go too! Bad lighting makes any room look horrible--no matter what materials are used!

Also, a different wall color will definitely help (fresh buttermilk white would be pretty or clean/soft, light gray would be nice too) the room overall.

Also x 2: Prepare yourself to try living with it for a while first. Doing so will help you feel more confident about what changes to make and when.

Designs by Kav The wall is too orange with those cabinets..drywall/paint ceiling white and leave beams intact. I would change countertops if.its within budget. It looks blue? Pot rack must go and you seem to have enough space for a center island with some seating?

More Than Murals Stain the beams a darker shade & then antique/ faux glaze the ceiling to accentuate the panelling. Also a different color on the walls w/ a glaze would give it that rustic/ old world charm.

carolins We have exactly the same ceiling in our living room and we've painted it all white. Much better. Hell of a job, but worthwhile.
