Arranging furniture in livingroom
Alright, I asked for some help a couple of wks ago w/ the arrangement of my furniture in my livingroom. I got a lil advice, but not exactly what I was looking for. We are about to paint the walls a lighter/ cooler color and are more than happy to get rid of any unneeded furniture. The window treatments will be changed out as well. Where should the couch, and recliners be at, in this 24x 14 room? Any help would be great, I know its cluttered & dark, that's why I'm re doing it... All wall art, knick knacks, pics etc...will be changed. If you came to my home, what would you do to this room?

carole first off, since you have already decided to change all the "stuff" bring it back to basics, take away everything you want to change and the carpet and the cabinets,(if you can do without them, put it all in boxes till you have the new furniture) Paint the walls and then look at the room, find out where the dark spots are and start with planning where you want lamps next; how many seatingplaces you need/want,then look for the style of furniture you would like,
really start with the big items first!!if the tv is staying where it is,i would put a door where all the shelves are,its too busy,i think, for now that is a good start,it is hard to imagen what it could be like because i dont know what your new style will be??contempory ??

tamaramccracken Since we are on a budget, and this isn't the only room we are re doing, we might have w keep the couch & 2 recliners for now

tamaramccracken Should the couch be across from the fireplace, since its the longest open space for it? If so should the recliners be on each side of the fireplace?

Trish Consider robin's egg blue for that red wall. I can't tell if the window to the left of the fireplace is a window or sliding doors. If it's just a window, I would put the couch to the left of the fireplace, facing the TV. Put the recliners flanking the TV, facing the couch, Big square coffee table, low to the ground in front of couch. Paint FP brick a pale color and paint screen black. The round chair I would move to the kids room if that's who uses it. Then, if I came across a deal, I'd replace the recliners with something less masculine. Declutter and lighten up. Nice room.

tamaramccracken Thx you Trish for giving me something to work with. Should the couch be centered w/ the tv, of to the side, or at an angle? I love the paint suggestion for the red room (dining area), any suggestion for the livingroom? As far as window treatments, I was thinking something neutral and long, maybe pulled back? I'll send a pic when its moved

movethisnotthat when you say cool color what would that be ? What color brick is on the fireplace? how many windows in this room. Taking everything out will be the first place for you to start, once the room is painting and the red room too, add the pieces you really like back into the space first and the biggest pieces. What kind of style are you trying to create? If you leave the TV there and bookshelf is built in consider painting it black to have it fit in with the TV and speakers OR paint it the new color you put on the wall add some "crown" molding to it to give it a more finished look. Remove for sure the round chair and little table and the rug from in front of the fireplace . Lamps could be fun with different shades or just different lamps all together, we can't see your rug, do you want to keep that too? What is on the back side of the 2 chairs? more pictures of your space please.:)
