Which BUDGET friendly pedastal table should we choose?!
- In setting up this space, we want a pedastal table and two upholstered chairs for tea/reading. Here are two of the few pedastal tables we have found within our budget. Although neither would be what I would find "perfect" for the space, we need to choose between the two. Either can be refinished so putting COLOR aside, :) Which would you choose?

sam0705 Option two looks more solid in the photos.

Melissa Elizabeth thanks sam! i will qualify by saying, having seen both in person, they are both in pretty much equivalent position and equivalent sturdiness. First is Thomasville - Second (bun feet) is Ethan Allen.

carolins And to confuse you even more... I like option one better :-) It really comes down to personal taste which of the feet appeal to you more I guess.

feeny I prefer option one, though part of my concern may be lighting. The finish on option two has a greenish tint to the wood that doesn't appeal to me or look like it complements your floor as well.

abbshel I like the "visual" weight of the second table and think it might complement upholstered chairs better also.
Once the table is refinished it should look beautiful.

Jayme Hobbs Second one looks like a veneer top? I would go with #1 in that case...esp. if u r repainting it.

Melissa Elizabeth Hi Jayme! It is veneer but if we went with this we would be adhering a new wood top before refinishing :]

carolannr I think you would be happier with option 2 with a couple of upholstered chairs. I like its substantialness with the roundedness of upholstery. Option one would look spindly next to your chosen chairs.

Susan Mills Design Option two has a nicer base, it's a bit more elegant IMO.

Margaret Phillips I also like the weighty look to the second one. Depends on the overall style the room will be. Truthfully one could look better in a one room, while the other one could look better in another room.

Melissa Elizabeth thanks margaret! - most of our other furniture to stage with is "traditional" - do you see one as being easier than the other to match with traditional?

Margaret Phillips I would say both are traditional BUT number one is more transitional in feel. Number one is more of the traditionalist with a more updated feel, not because of the color but a little bit of whimsy on the design of pedestal. It swings both ways. You could place that table with no argument in my Mother's Old Willamsburg styled breakfast room. You could also place that table in a young hipster's dining room with a multiple choices of chairs. Number two is more comfortable with traditional chairs. I do have trouble with the photos, two different angles, hard to decide. Your idea book has tables with delicate legs with upholstered seats etc. if the pedestal main width is more than 7 or 8 inches on the second one I'd go with first one. If that center leg is too thick it will not go with such graceful chairs. There was a period of time in the seventies where good tables even by Ethan Allen were following trends of very thick pedestals. If that pedestal is thin enough (less the swells, ) I'd still go with the second one. I'd love too how you put it all together.

Jean Tuck For the size of the rooom Id probably choose the second one with matching chairs whatever color you choose. But thats me as it has a more beefy heavyier look.

cjohnston I like Option 2. I like to be able to rest my feet on the base when I'm sitting at a pedestal table. Option 1 has a curved base, but Option 2 has a nice flat surface for resting my feet.

Manon Floreat I like option 2 and its sweet little bun feet! It has more of a classic feel than option 1 - which makes it more versatile in my opinion.
