Judy M Cute cape cod style. I would avoid the fancy beveled glass. Here's some ideas

Carmen Iwaszczenko Do you have room to do a door with 2 sidelights? It would really boost the focal point and give a lot of options.

creativetkr Love the door choices from Judy M also consider adding new larger lights in more of a cape design too. The big box home stores have some very nice choices. One I have seen is more of a lantern and come in polished silver or bronze

lefty47 HI -- Do you have an arcitectural salvage place you could go to and find a heritage or vintage door and this would add some character to the house . Then you will need some trim around the door and maybe a pedimet on the top , and they would have those at the salvage place also. There is also Crestviewdoors.com this is for mid century style doors , but the site will give you some ideas anyway. Looking for a special door could be a fun treasure hunt !

CMR Interiors & Design Consultations Inc. The roof on this house looks like it older. Is this the case?

mstarling04 CMR, the roof is older. We're having it done in a few months what color would you suggest?

mstarling04 We would also like opinions on rather we should do wrought iron or the new composite wood for the porch?

taospines I would build out a covered front porch/entryway before you reroof. Everyone needs a little room to get into a house. This Old House magazine has done it for a lot of houses and they always turn out well, go see if some pictures are online there. You would be extending the roofline above the doorway.

CMR Interiors & Design Consultations Inc. A black roof for sure. It always looks crisp and makes these homes look more tailored and high end. Dark chocolate if that doesn't work for you but chocolates can fade and have a red base to them. That would not be good.

Esp against green and white: here is a link to pics on google with black roofs. Check it out:

I would do a solid wood thick front door that can be painted any color you want, for security & longevity. Alternatively you always need a stronger frame installed then the door. You could put in a solid steel 18 guage or 16 guage door with a solid steel frame that also looks like wood. Curries doors has wood veneered steel doors and you can get a window put in them if you wish.

I'm installing solid as a rock doors that look like a regular residential door but would break someones foot if they tried to kick it in right now because all neighborhoods including the high end ones are experiencing a higher rate of robberies across the board with this economy.

Also having grade 1 ball bearing hinges-not the ones from home depot is the way to go. The other ones totally bend and then the door is off and not closing as easily. Buy these form a door supplier.

Also not having a window on the front door. Instead have a door scope. These things totally rock. 360 degree view of who is outside 6 feet away from the door- http://www.safety-devices.com/doorviewer.htm?gclid=CLb-p7rTrLUCFSNqMgodQHEAxA

We just installed these on steel doors for our condo building. But I've seen them on residential with a door knocker below them.

This house is kind of like yours but without the roof dormers

Judy M I like a dark charcoal color for the roof.

CMR Interiors & Design Consultations Inc. Wrought iron doesn't work for this house. Composite wood is better

ncdiy How about some beautiful lovely rectangular lanterns for the sides of the door? Look at these from Lantern & Scroll (www.lanternandscroll.com or find them on Facebook) Be careful though, you need a special mounting plate to bring the fixtures down some. Cheers!

Apartment 46 for the Home Black doors are always great. We have painted many doors in marine gloss black. It withstands every single thing since it's boat paint, and is very easy to clean.
