Looking for rustic cabin inspiration.
I have an open floor plan with living room, office space, kitchen and dinning area. It has open trusses, a wall that is covered in wood shingles and a black iron stove with a brick hearth. Very rustic elements that fit my husband and it's personality. Now I'm looking for inspiration on how to decorate the space.

bainmrb I have been designing a "Rustic Industrial" theme for our mountain home for the past year. We are finally putting the concepts together in our remodel. I have found lots of resources. If you would like to see them, follow me on Pinterest http://pinterest.com/bainmrb/
Good luck with your project. I think the Industrial chic style will be popular for the next 20 years, and will be a good investment.

libradesigneye One of the challenges of dealing with rustic elements is how to keep them fresh. The industrial blends above show one concept that at least will help bridge the black stove - adding some silver / gray elements - a wonderful neutral that is practical and goes with nearly every color palette you can imagine. I'd keep all my metals in the black and silver family though, and save the warmer tones for perhaps some cinnamon and rusty reds in my fabric selections. Those tables are fabulous, but even without a specialty piece, incorporating the milk jug / chicken wire / galvinized elements that evoke rustic life speaks quietly but carries a lot of weight.

I like the idea of taking the wall of shingles (all that texture) and staining/washing them with a pale gray watered down paint so you get all the grain and texture but none of the golden brown. You can layer in the galvinized chairs that echo back - like the taboret chairs on overstock right now. .

First I would want to paint - something that looks good with wood tones and with grays. A background tone that would feel sunny and timeless - like http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/goldenstraw which works great with gray tones and warm woods but makes a great backdrop for the kind of rusty barn red / cinnamon tones that we associate with warmth. A big space with a black stove and high ceilings will feel like it is washed in sunlight with this backdrop. Check out the kilim pillows that say ranch house to me at PB, and consider caramel toned leather that will age beautifully over time. Select one beautiful print fabric for inspiration in the space that you love, and start to layer.

Add some substantial piece of furniture painted black - a pie safe or shaker sideboard and hutch. Consider some http://www.hubbardtonforge.com/ lighting - ranges from authentic to new artisan but at the scale of your space.
