Design help for matching styles
We are to the stage in building where it is time to pick out details. I'm so lost. We are getting knotty alder cabinets in the kitchen with a stain and want to carry a rustic feel throughout our open great room and dining room, but don't know how to blend it with a transitional style and white doors. Any ideas on stained wood trim and colors?

Interiors International, Inc. Stained trim and painted doors look good together. White doors look better with a darker stain. Knotty Alder has a large grain pattern. You will want to choose a wood with a tight grain pattern or it will look too busy.

ksports1 Thank you. Do you know of any pictures with examples? I keep coming up empty when I search. I love the western rustic warm style but also the nice crisp transitional style too and just don't know of any middle ground.

Ironwood Builders put painted door, stained trim in your search.

LB Interiors The more stained knotty pine on larger square footage of your cabinets, the more rustic it will feel. The larger amounts of painted surfaces, will be more of a transitional feeling

Interiors International, Inc. You may need a designers help. Even if you just hire one by the hour and spend a day with them. It will put you on a decided track.

lynette7556 We are almost finished building a home, also, and have a similar situation to yours. We have hickory cabinets stained a reddish brown, and we have a lighter shade stain on hickory flooring.
We are balancing this with white trim, doors, and I am putting in lots of white accents to keep it
from looking like too much wood. Once you balance your alder with the white trims, then your
furniture and accessories can help carry your rustic look. We are going a bit more contemporary
in furnishings, but you could go to town with rustic tables, lamps, etc.
