Niches and Hook
We are remodeling the master bath and have all the niches figured out however we use back brushes and bathing "poufs" and I'm trying to figure out a solution for hanging them. The towel racks will be outside shower area and not reachable while showering. I can't believe I'm spending this kind of money to renovate and then will resort to plastic suction cup hooks?! Suggestions?

Ironwood Builders Does the manufacturer of your towel bars make a similar styled robe hook? It can be installed on the wall of the shower in a convenient location, just make sure to put it in away from the direct spray of the shower head and put some clear silicone caulk in the screw holes in the wall prior to installing the hook. If no matching hook is available, generic hooks in at least three finishes are. Keep it simple and use a single hook, not an old style coat hook. Same installation technique. Not into drilling holes in your tile? Try the Command strip hooks. They don't look like the suction cup hooks, no wall penetrations and will hold just fine to the wall.

ldkgirl Thanks for the suggestions. I also found they make hooks out of natural stone that are set when doing the tile, however my tile is a high gloss light cream so it doesn't work. Thanks again!

nononanna Do you want to hide them or do you mind seeing them?

ldkgirl I don't mind seeing them. The shower area is completely out of view from the rest of the bathroom.

kmkh I agree that it's crazy that there are no accessories to hang items in shower except for suction cups. I want a bar for face cloth in the shower and haven't seen one yet. I haven't looked alot yet, but will soon be doing the bathroom reno and will want one then!

halleycomet YEp this is absurd! We have a pebble textured shower surround and we can't even USE the suction cups--they won't STICK! I haven't thought to try the Command ones tho---great idea!---What we did to corral bath items for 7 people inc two little kids was get one of those Pole Basket dealies--this has several shallow baskets---wish the baskets were a bit deeper AND the "weave" was tighter--and this uses tension to go from the shower floor to the ceiling. We have had this for a few years and recently someone wonked into it and it did fall over--so now we are going to screw a shallow "cup"--think a painted jar lid!--into the ceiling to make sure it stays vertical.

I use a shower seat and because the tub is very short it means I am always wonking into the thing when it gets "Out of plumb" so this will be a big help. We have also added some clips and "S" hooks to hold wash clothes. scrubbies; some binder rings strung thru the bars can hold razors; the plastic clothes dryer hooks---they have a clothes pin "end" and a hanger "end" found at camping stores and Vermont Country Store have been of much use with this and other hanging bath needs.

If you plan and add a GRAB BAR--something you might NOT be thinking of but believe me I am SO glad we HAD one already when I and others have NEEDED it---you can also hang things on that like washcloths etc. The time to ADD a fully functional grab bar is BEFORE you start to tile or do the surround so you can make provisions for the studding to be in place to bolt it to. You can do this in an existing shower/bath but you will need to drill etc.

I have also added a plastic basket with handles and holes in the sides for the kids bath toys and other bottles and stuff that was too large for the basket pole holder---this slides under my bath seat or is easily removed when someone else uses the bath. Makes for a MUCH neater bath all around--everything in one place that can be checked for things that need replacing and the open sides allow for drainage and quick drying.

Some design firm is missing a HUGE opportunity here tho!!!!
