Your favorite chairs?
Please pick what you think are the best chairs to go with this Saarinen marble table. Would like to finally make a decision this week. Thank you!

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Goodness, what else would I pick but a Saarinen tulip chair, the chair that Saarinen designed to go with the table. I lived in a dormitory at Vassar College, named Noyes House, which he designed, and the lounge was full of his tables and chairs. I passed many a happy hour there playing bridge when I should have been studying.

Lydia Try the Henriksdal chair from Ikea with a grey slip cover. If I may add, you could remove the blinds and install some great linen curtains or some sheers.

luvlac64 Carolyn those are high on the list, although my reservation is that it's a small space and the 4 pedestals on the chairs would overpower the space. Thoughts on that?

luvlac64 Lydia, thank you I'm trying to stay post modern with the chairs. I like the idea about replacing the verticals. They have got to go!!

ruthbrog You can go with a lucite chair or stainless chair theres a company Nuevo or trica that has some really nice chairs

Terri Symington, ASID I used an acrylic chair with a similar table, which works great with a small space to give it a more open feeling. Terri Symington, ASID, RID

karen paul interiors This was developed by le Corbusier in 1928. It is available in 8 colors and is available through DWI. Nice thing about this chair is it swivels.

lewis + smith Bertoia chair is more comfortable than it looks.

karen paul interiors The first one I sent is practical with swivel and is a classic. However, this next one is my all time favorite, but it depends on how dressy you want. It IS more traditional.

karen paul interiors This final one is a good modern/transitional choice and is available thru Holly Hunt. Very chic with beautiful fluid lines.

hollybar So many great chairs. Eames La Fonda.

blindsdirectcanada I would remove the vertical blinds and replace them with Ripplefold sheers or drapes. It will make the space alot more modern and up to date.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design luvlac, you mentioned that you liked the Saarinen chair but perhaps did not have the space for it. Be aware that it also comes armless and thus less is of a space grabber.

luvlac64 Those are very nice blinds. To Carolyn, I like the armless tulip chairs very much. The knolls would blow my budget out of the water, and I've heard that the reproductions are all poor quality.

LizaJane I LOVE the chairs that Karen Paul Interiors chose. They are very cool. Depends on what the rest of your house looks like??? I always prefer mixing furniture pieces rather than matching.

sloffler Susan Mills Design nailed it with her modern acrylic take on a dutch parlor chair with the Anime Lucite Dining Chair. VoilĂ ! Bam!

luvlac64 Rest of the condo is modern with the mid century pieces (like the Saarinen table seen here).

aniluap2 Ghost chairs would look godd as well and virtually disappear if space is an issue.

Susan Mills Design Sloffler, love the Voila! Blam!

Susan Mills Design I love the shape of the tulip armless chair. I can see it around the table in this space. With the vertical lines of the blinds, and all the reflective surfaces, including the vertical shadows on the art wall, I think they would give the space some needed solidity. As much as I love lucite, unless they had cushions, I think would add more reflection and less of the presence needed.

luvlac64 Susan I like how you think. You're good.

Victoria Loucks I think any of the MCM suggestions such as the tulip, pantone, eames or the bertoia would work very well but you could also consider a modern chair such as the Cebu which comes in white, red or black.

luvlac64 Thank you all for your great suggestions. I decided to go with the classic Eames plastic chairs. Charles and Eero were friends and so I think it's a good pairing. Though the tulip chairs would have been the natural choice, I didn't want them to match the table exactly. Plus the Eames chairs fit my budget where as the tulip chairs did NOT. Thanks again. Happy day.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I like that reasoning!

lewis + smith looks great.

Danielle B Here is a picture of our condo kitchenette. The chairs and table are replicas from Ikea. The chairs are very comfortable. Thought it might help to actually see this type of table with chairs.
