Living room makeover, help!
We are planning on redoing our fireplace w/ tv above, changing look of built-ins & arrangement of furniture. Would it be acceptable to face the couch at the TV so that the back of the couch is facing the room entrance?

julievs If the room is big enough I think it would be fine. Add a sofa table behind the saga with a lamp and some accessories to soften the view from the hall. Plus, make sure you have plenty of room to go around the sofa on both sides so it does not feel crowded!

handymam I think moving to face the fireplace would really be more interesting and obviously what you will need to see the tv. I think it would be nice.

Gabberts Design Studio Definitely! We recommend "floating" furniture all the time!

wilserdon Do you think when looking into room that a couch in front of window and another couch across facing each other would work? Window would be lower than couch.

hollyskog Be careful putting sofa in front of window if too sunny it will fade in no time. Make sure sofa isn't too long if you face towards fireplace get two smaller swivel chairs so they can turn towards tv and fireplace or towards sofa for conversation and a little larger coffee table for everyone's use you could probably pull swivel chairs closer.

Welcome Home designs I found a photo showing a similar layout to your living room. Notice how the seating is moved in towards the fireplace - even the area rug (you don't need the small rug in front) I like your window bench and would try not to block it - but use it as extra seating.
Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

JWinteriors The beauty of this room is that you can change things up at whim. You can float the sofa with a chair on either side of fireplace on diagonal facing the sofa for good conversation. Want everyone to watch tv..run one sofa on long wall with the other sofa floating, getting a sectional feel. Than only one chair on a diagonal on the right hand side of fireplace. Place your tables around the seating, including sofa table behind the floater. Add window panels for softness. Enjoy!

meganpat I like your room, it just needs a wee update and your furniture moved about a bit. What do you want to be the focus in the room ? Your fireplace, telly or do you have a great view out the window? I like your fire surround and the shelves, maybe you need to due clutter a little or as Julievs suggests a table behind the sofa when you enter the room for your lovely photos. You may also want to give your dog his own space elsewhere in your home?
