ASVInteriors To update the look, you need to make the lines as sleek and minimal as possible. I agree with Karen Paul that getting rid of the brick surround is a start. Whatever material or colour you do, keep it the same from top to bottom. Will you be plastering the brick wall?

Sharon I think perhaps reduce the brick and render/plaster with a light color.
