Low maintenance landscaping
Looking for some ideas for landscaping that will stand up to the heat and low water levels in the rocky, hilly soil of Southeastern Oklahoma. I am thinking of grassy plants and rock garden.

mjmiller_color Hosta's can take a lot of heat and don't need a lot of moisture. Some of them grow quite large and even flower for awhile. I would plant them around your house and tree.

LizaJane Gorgeous home! I LOVE grasses, so easy and they come back every year! Because your house has a lot of orange, I would stick with mostly green and blue colored plants. And don't forget cacti

Kim Thank you so much! Great suggestions and pictures. I like the idea of sticking with mostly green and blue plants as well.

ASVInteriors I am a great fan of grasses (after all many of them come from the US prairie land and are quite hardy). The best one is Stipa Tennuissima (below taken about April in Europe) which is a lovely fresh green and goes straw in the winter. LizaJane has posted Festuca Glauca a lovely bluegrass that is also quite hardy.
To add height, check Miscanthus or Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster'
Also why not create a dry river (made of rocks and pebbles) to add interest.
Also, do check with your local garden centre as some grasses have been classified as invasive in the US (as have some types of bamboo)

mjmiller_color Good luck! Love your home! Is the top half all logs? Do you have a loft? Love your windows too!

EasyTurf Low watering? Low maintenance? You want EasyTurf - you get the same look and feel of a lush, green lawn, but not all the maintenance and water costs. Our installation crews will level the ground and make sure to work around any tree roots - we're the most durable synthetic turf and will stand up to toughest elements - including the heat. Check us out - www.easyturf.com - and let me know if you have any questions. Good luck in whatever direction you go!

Kim Fabulous ideas! You all have helped me to create a great vision for the landscape. @mjmiller- it is a log home with a lake and mountain view. Our builder posted additional pictures that you can view on houzz if you search Satterwhite Log Home Builder. No loft. We could not be happier with the way it turned out. Our final project on the property is landscape completion and you all have given me some great leads. Thanks again!
