Area rugs
I have an open floor plan. I have selected a rug for my dining area. When searching for a rug for my living room area....should I choose the same rug in a smaller size or purchase a rug that blends with the dining room rug? The colors in both rooms are the same.

Fitzgerald Carpet One Finding a different area rug for your living room that blends with the dining area may be more difficult but will ultimately look more interesting. Consider area rugs as artwork for your floor.

Dytecture Depending on the design of the area rug selected, you might be able to find something that has similar color tones but in a different pattern so the 2 spaces relate to each other but in a subtle way.
