Need help with backsplash and countertop edge
I am about to give up on remodeling my 15 year old kitchen. I don't know what I want just what I'd like it to look like when I'm done. I've asked too many opinions and no longer sure what to do. I have white cabinets, wood floor, and WHITE appliances that I want to keep. I have taken down the busy wallpaper with vines and flowers and want to keep it clean, open, and calm. I love the colors in the Uba Tuba granite since its just a darker green that I already have in my laminate. However, picking an edge for the granite, a sink (black composite or stainless steel) and the backsplash are enough decisions to keep me from moving forward on this project. I basically have 3 choices on backsplashes. 1.) do the 4" granite backsplash and paint the rest. It would be similiar to my laminate I have now. 2.) use the Uba Tuba all the way up to the upper cabinets. Im just concerned about price and the darkness that is going to give my kitchen. Its a large kitchen with a LOT of natural light and high ceilings but Im not sure about locking myself into that much dark granite. 3.) option is tiling the backsplash. This seems to be the most common. However, I haven't seen any I really like. Most seem to compete with the countertop and add a lot of additional texture and colors. I also am not a big fan of grout and I want to be able to change colors in the kitchen in curtains, accessories, and wall paint. The countertop and backsplash are going to be there for at least the next 15 years. I have thought about plain white subway tile but my cabinets are a soft white and look dirty next to the bright white subway tile. Please help. I do NOT want stainless steel appliances and have brand new white appliances coming next week. This will give a more seamless look with my cabinets as well.
Any suggestions or pictures of what others have done with Uba Tuba and white cabinets would really help me. I appreciate helping me get back on the right path and finish this project.

Main Line Kitchen Design All in my opinion but.......

If you want the back splash Uba Tuba use Uba Tuba 12 x 12 tile. It is inexpensive and is 1/4" thick and won't bury the window trim in 3/4" expensive solid granite. I dislike a 4" back splash it looks like you have a laminate top. Do tile all the way up, you choose the style. I would get a stainless under mount sink too. The granite sinks all turned grey 7 years ago and Blanco stopped making them. They reissued them again but who knows? They give no guarantee. Get a 16 gauge sink and not an 18 gauge.

Norm Walters Construction Inc. Use a white six by six tile set on a diagonal for the backsplash, have your fabricator make you small accent tiles from the granite countertop slab to accent. I would use a white undermount cast iron sink since you don't want stainless appliances. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

thislittlehouse Full sized glass splashback panels are pretty much standard here in Australia - no one has tiles anymore (because of the maintenance and cleaning of grout) and I have never seen those short little backsplashes here. Ever.

The glass comes as one panel, cut to the exact size for your kitchen and the back of the glass is painted in any colour you want. You could have it painted the exact same shade as your cabinetry. It does end up looking slightly different in that it is shiny glass, but the colour would be the same.

They look fantastic, reflect light, are easy to clean but don't have the same screaming for attention pattern or texture as granite.

hopesilver paint your cabinets the same white as your appliances. Put in a soft color (lite green) 1x3 in subway tiles for contrast. It will look like a million bucks!

Lizabeth Ditto on no to 4 inch backsplash as it looks so dated. I also think tiles on the diagonal are dated and scream early 2003 and will give you a "busy" feel. You can do any tiles you like including subway in many colors. Subways are made in all colors. You could do a metal backsplash, stainless, copper, or pewter and if you can't decide you could leave it just sheetrocked and painted until you find something that stirs your heart.
