Mirror placement above Buffet - help!
need a second opinion. Does this height look appropriate for the mirror above the buffet? It is at the same height as the artwork on the adjacent wall, making it about 3.5" above the top of the buffet.

Or should I bump it up to make it the same height as the curio cabinet beside it? If I do that, do I NEED to move the artwork up as well? Because we do like the height of the artwork when sitting at the table or standing (it does not get lost behind the light fixture.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

P.S. I apologize for the bright lights in the photo!

prissy13 Hmm., I am not a professional, but just in my opinion I would put the mirror on the other wall behind your dining table and swap it for the artwork. I think it competes for attention with the wood dresser below and you want it to make a statement. Try swapping and see how you like the look. And I would hand the artwork 5 or 6 inches above the dresser.

LizaJane Prissy...I like your idea...so much dark furniture on the one end. Try it and see!

joshdirkson Interesting idea. I was hoping to lighten it up by adding a light runner to the buffet and a couple lighter colored pieces in an attempt to create a color separation.

But I will swap them and see how it looks!

blindsdirectcanada I love the decor you did a great job!

Barbara Griffith Designs I would hang the mirror vertically and to the left side above the buffet, then a tall bulky lamp with a black shade on the other side, maybe a large bowl in the center.

ASVInteriors I like everything as it is. The mirror above the dark cabinet creates a visual focal point for all the diners (except the person at the head of the table). It is also the place where visual depth is of most use - otherwise the mirror will be reflecting the kitchen/bar(?) into it. Have you seen Kelly Hoppen's work, you might like it!

joshdirkson ASV - those colors are totally our style - beautiful! Yes our kitchen is on the opposite side of the dining area, and that is our island you can kinda of see in the photo.

Barbara - unfortunately we don't have much room to the left of the buffet, and we have switches there as well, so mirror can't go there! See photo for example.

This is an older picture to show the space beside the buffet. (Note the different wall color and smaller mirror!)

Lydia I find the mirror is too big. A round or oval mirror (preferably with some texture) would fit this space much better. There are already too many straight lines....the room needs some curves! I would remove the curio cabinet.....I find it's too small for the scale of the other furniture.

Barbara Griffith Designs The mirror, not to the left of the buffet..above the buffet, but to the left side, vertically.

joshdirkson Oh oh ok... its definitely too long for that, but perhaps with a round or oval mirror that would work nice!
