LizaJane First thing I would do is remove everything. Is your trim brown or black? Can't tell. I would start with a fabulous light colored rug to lighten up the space. Unless you use the sofa for actual seating, I would move out and replace with a fabulous hall table and lamps. I have attached a photo of what I am thinking. Good Luck!
