Mixing oriental and contemporary rugs
My next question is how to mix oriental rug with contemporary one that I am planing to add into my dining room. It is right beside living room, they are L-shaped. I might put this rug in DR but again how to choose colour and style for new rug? Thanks

ASVInteriors You need to pick up elements from this room - so you could have a rug that had the deep grey(?) and tan elements of your floor in a VERY subtle linear pattern; or you could have another contemporary rug that picks up on the teal/grey or red of your oriental rug.

LizaJane The red in your photo looks almost pink. Not sure if that is true or not? I would try to find a rug that has very similar colors as existing rug but that does not match. Or, you could always just go with a tone on tone grey. I would pull some of the red off the floor onto the couch in pillow.

LizaJane Grover...love the rug!!!

decoenthusiaste Here are a couple that seemed to have similar colors on my computer. They are from a great online shopping source: homedecorators.com.

Aja Mazin You do not want a floral pattern, since your oriental is considered a floral.
Choose a geometric.

Aja Mazin I would put the Oriental in the dr, and the new rug in the lr and accesorize with color to avoid any conflict.

sondramartina Aja ,I was considering that and I think it would look better than other way around.

Aja Mazin I agree, but need to see.

It is a great rug,.

I love the colours!!!

sondramartina I cant forgive myself for selling another one for peanuts that was little bit worn out in couple of spots .It was great looking rug and larger than this one. What was I thinking!!????

Aegean-Designing Whims I'd look for a rug with the same colors as the oriental rug. Not too bold or too much of a patttern so there's no conflict. Chrysteen

Aja Mazin sondramartina,

OMG!

Kathryn Peltier Design I LOVE the rug groveraxle posted. If the chairs and table will be neutral, I really think you need some color on the floor!

groveraxle Thanks, Kathryn, for voting for that rug. I knew the moment I saw it that it was meant for sondramartina's room. But she doesn't listen to me. Something about my encouraging her to steal from her son. ;-)

BTW, I've been watching you in control on another discussion thread and just want to say, I think you're a saint.

sondramartina groveraxle i so intrigued now! Don't make me dig thru bunch of discussions :)
I like that rug very much but i had red rugs many times, and there is long red runner in my hallway. I need different colour.

groveraxle sondramartina, intrigued? Remember our argument over the photo you said you stole from your son? The one you apparently stole a second time and is over the sofa now?

And then you tried to ditch me by starting a new discussion, but I found you anyway? (In case you can't tell, I'm having a lot of fun with you. Besides, I like your style. You need to trust your instincts more.)

I'll look for another rug, but it won't be easy. ;-)

sondramartina You explained everything but not why is Kathryn saint?

sondramartina I love over-dyed rugs but would they look ugly beside this one?

Aja Mazin groveraxle will find your rug!

groveraxle sondramartina, I found this gorgeous overdyed rug earlier and rejected it. I think it would be too much with your current one:

How about a pic of the living and dining rooms together so we can get a sense of how the two relate?

sondramartina Yes I think so too. Too bad.i love that one. But thank you so much.

Kathryn Peltier Design groveraxle has done it again: I still love that Lunar Stripe, but the first one above, the teal with the oriental arabesque pattern would look really good. Relates enough but not a replica! The one below it I love, too, although I don't think the color is as good. The other two work, too, but much safer.

sondramartina I really love the teal one, thank you Groveraxle. Maybe I can put something like that in LR? Or not? I think i need pattern In LR.
