Left-handed faucet
This may be a dumb question, but I'm left handed. All of the kitchen faucets seem to have the knob on the wrong side. Can they all be reversed or is there such a thing as a left-handed faucet? My friend assures me we can install it without a plumber, which is why I've come to Houzz.

rinqreation Sure. For your own convenience that can be done.
Just switch the pipes (those flexible ones come in handy).
Some faucets even have replaceable H and C's.

I'm lefthanded myself, but I've become used to those type of things.
Electric tools on the other hand.. They have this button that keeps them running..

Dytecture If possible choose a faucet where the level is at the top so that are non-directional.

soberg Some faucets will work for this, but many CAN'T be switched! Either use Dytecture's idea, or choose a faucet where the handle is installed completely separate from the spigot. This is common, and you can then place the handle on either side you choose, and even switch it later if need be.

The odd thing is that the typical faucet with integrated handle has the handle positioned for the right hand to use, but I find as a right hander, I prefer the handle on the left, and hold my workpiece (sponge, vegetable, bowl, whatever) on the right.

Granite Grannies If it has a separate handle (that goes in a second hole) and you are mounting it straight into the countertop, you should be able to just mount it on the left side, but you might have to move the plumbing around a bit. If it's a single handle faucet, then sometimes you can just spin it around to mount it. We carry Allora faucet (allorausa.com), and have done that a few times. The plumbing might have to be moved over. Depends on how handy you are. Just make sure you play around with the faucet before buying it so you know you can switch it.

karelina I guess I should have mentioned, according to my plumber, I have to have a one-hole faucet. I do a lot of cooking and use big pots, so a high faucet with a pull down/up/out would be the handiest. The ones with the handles on the top are usually fairly low. Is there a way to tell if it can be switched to the left side? I can always ask if I go to a store, but I'm hoping to find one on-line and save a bit.

Soberg: Are you really happy using the right-sided handle? All I can imagine is that I'll have a lot of wet sleeves from trying to turn on the water with my left hand.

rinqreation I'm confused, ha! A single handle is used for both hot and cold water, right? And when you need hot, you flip it to one side and cold the other.. Then why does it matter where the handle is? (it is late in the evening here..) Or do you mean a faucet with a vertical handle? Then it would matter.. Hmm, turns my brain upside down thinking about all the things I do righthanded..

Twisted Minds Custom Designs Faucets aren't set to be hot water dominant hand exclussive. They are set to have hot on right and cold on left as universal, so when you go to a public or others private sinks, bat, etc. you know which is which as to prevent accidental burns. Same as gas and brake petals in cars, imagine if they were set to the owners preference and someone else tried to drive. Or the clutch and brake on a bicycle. Some things are set as universal design and that is what is followed by manufactures.

karelina lefty47; So, I'm silly and lazy and what else, stupider than the average lefty?
You sound unkinder than the average lefty.
Please allow that I may need that crutch.

rinqreation Lefties come in many shapes and sizes, don't make a fuss.
I can only tie my laces one way and I know there are two.
That doesn't make me less in whatever way.
Just saying.

karelina ringreation: It's turning on or reaching for the handle on the right side that makes me thing I'd like the handle on the left side. Turn the water on with your left hand and your arm is soaked or to turn it off - reach through the water - and get soaked.

karelina Twisted: I'm not trying to reverse hot and cold, just the handle location. Most (all?) handles are on the right.

onthefence I love the one that Dytecture posted. I've always liked that style anyway regardless of the left/right thing.

Another thought would be one of the new Moen motion activated faucets. I doubt it cares which hand you wave at it. ;-)

onthefence The Blanco Alta faucet pictured above by Dytecture comes in a 8" height (10" total faucet height). Do you need taller?
karelina The Blanco is attractive, but I need a spray and I can only have a 1-hole faucet.

The Moen is too pricey - my budget is 1/2 the cost of the Moen. At your suggestion, I found another motion activated faucet - a Delta Touch - more in my price range. I would prefer, though, to have a faucet that I can turn on and off manually. I don't know about you, but public bathrooms now have those eyes on towels and soap and water. I would guess I can get them to work first try 1 in 3?

I'm grateful for the suggestions, but I really want a left-handed faucet.
Is there a way to tell if a faucet can be switched? I've been looking and none of them say anything about it.

onthefence The Blanco does have a spray ;-) If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you'll see that it has the pull OUT rather than pull DOWN spray.

If the Blanco does work for you by chance, shop it carefully. There appear to be a lot of versions/heights etc of this one. And having faucet shopped, I can tell you prices will be all over the map.

I have seen discussions somewhere about doing what you want to do re: handle change. I just can't seem to locate the info. I'll keep searching when I think of a new search criteria to use and will update if I find anything.

Oh - and I get it about the faucet 'eye' not seeing your hand. Sometimes you have to dance in front of those things to get them to give you water.

onthefence One other thought - depending on where you are, go to a GOOD plumbing outlet. They will often have things on display that you won't see at the BigBox store. And they're almost guaranteed to have knowledgable people who know how to find/do what you need. And the bonus is - they're generally in the same price range as BigBox.

karelina The Bianco is lovely, but at $700+. Definitely out of my price range, by about $500. From looking around online, $200-ish seemed to offer brand name choices. Is that to low?

onthefence OK - a couple things...

Do a google search for kitchen faucet left handle. You'll see a variety of posts at a different site that discuss doing this. Appears it isn't uncommon at all.

You'll also see at least one faucet available at Home Depot that references that the handle can be swtiched. Doesn't mention site though. You can search the model # and probably find it online.

I found the Alto 440664 at amazon for $300.

All that said, buy a good faucet. You can definitely get a $90 faucet somewhere - probably even one that allows you to move the lever. And you'll be replacing it at least once a year.

karelina onthefence: Thank you! I tried this search before, but only checked the first few. The ones that actually say anything about left were down the list. $300 is okay, if that's what I have to spend to get a reasonable faucet. I've already used up my budget, but the water is scalding or cold - there doesn't seem to be warm, so I have to do something.

Thanks, again, for everybody's advice!

bojaby My kitchen faucet is separate from the lever that controls the water. There is a third hole for a soap dispenser. Every time I use it I swear the plumber was left handed because he put the control to the left of the faucet.

karelina Twisted: The web address brought up an article about sinks. I didn't see a faucet?

karelina bojaby: I only have 1 hole, so a separate control is not possible. Wish I had your sink!

onthefence Hansgrohe Metro 04259805 . Available all over the place -- but at Costco within your budget. Have seen numerous mentions that it can be turned to install. I'm not sure how one would address the hot/cold hookup.

karelina Thanks everyone!

eztia Karelina, in the post that Ironwood suggested (about the sinks), look at the last photo Creeser put in her comment. It is a commercial sink faucet/sprayer. The control is in the center. It fits in a single hole sink. It is what I thought of for you, but Creeser found the photo, and Ironwood found the discussion with the photo!
Best wishes.
