Hardwood in kitchen
I'm seeing a lot of pictures with hardwood in the kitchen. Is ceramic tile passée??

cynth51 I have wood floors in my kitchen and I love them. We recently redid our kitchen and decided we wanted to stain the existing natural maple a dark walnut color. It looks great and the floor is over 20 years old. I have ceramic tile in my master bath--I am not fond of it at all. The bathroom is about 15 years old and the ceramic tile is cracked and chipped in several areas--and the bathroom is not a high traffic area like the kitchen. Overall, I think wood floors are very forgiving and they add a lot of character. I even have wood floors in my powder room.

AMN Not necessarily, but wood is definitely having its moment in the kitchen. It often looks and feels much warmer.

Tile in the kitchen needs to be done well to not look dated, IMO. Here are some nice examples:
