Kitchen help! Tight space and want ideas before I remodel
I am trying to figure out how to update my kitchen and particularly increase my space. I have thought about breaking down half of the wall between the kitchen and dining room and creating a bar area since we do not have a kitchen table (nor room for one). The walk-way, however, is also tight between the fridge and the stove so I am looking for ideas. I have thought about moving the fridge closer to the dining room and center it between the cabinets, but then I would need to purchase new cabinets. (The cabinets are out-dated so that might be a good idea anyway). Also the counter-tops are small on the left side of the fridge (the pictures may not show how small they are but they are not very useful). I realize these updates will not be cheap but we are also on a tight budget, so the more affordable recommendations, the better.
***I tried posting pictures in order but it posted in error, when viewing click 1, 2,4, and then 3 to help you see it more in order of how it circles the room, thanks!
Thanks for your help!

eagledzines Are you really attached to your range? Buying a new or good second hand one will immediately give you more space, since a new range will be 30", smaller than the one you now have.

The pictures are nice, but to give you a layout, it is more helpful to have a sketch showing dimensions and where the doorways are and the width of the doorways. Looking at your pictures, I'm sure we can come up with a much better arrangement for you that will give you.

rhodesmccr Ok, so you're saying maybe get a smaller stove? It's a pretty old stove so it wouldn't be a huge loss to replace it, thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure about how to sketch but will look into it. Thanks!

cypress Besides replacing your stove with a 30" one, I don't know what your budget is, but I think a counter depth refrigerator would also save space in that corner.

Dytecture I agree, the stove looks over-sized in this kitchen. Not sure how wide the space is, but might be enough room for an island.

rinqreation A low-budget option might be to take out the most left cabinets next to the fridge, so the fridge will fit in the corner. They seem the same width, are they? Or are the cabinets connected to the right ones? Then move the entire thing over, the point is to get the fridge over to the corner. Further I agree on the stove, it's too wide.

Fleurishes One great thing we did with our kitchen was to add a cupboard (where the dishes go) where the cabinet reached all of the way to the front edge of the counter. All of my dishes fit on the two two large shelves, and the bottom became my "garage" for the blender, toaster, canisters, etc... The cabinet appears to a free standing piece of furniture. Also, the dishwasher is right next to the cupboard...easy and convenient to emptying it. Underneath are shelves that we installed with "pull out" wire drawers. I don't have to move anymore than 24" to do my dishes. The silverware drawer is in the kitchen island right across from the dishwasher...........works GREAT and looks beautiful
