What do I do with my flatscreen tv wall?
I need some storage

artistwannabe I have the exact same problem!! The thing that bothers me most is when you search to look for what others have done, especially the designers, they never show all the chords that hang down and the cable boxes. These are a part of the TV system and designs to hide this stuff should be incorporated in the design!! Good luck on your answers. I will be reading!

Ironwood Builders Pictures of your space and the location of the TV will help the designers here make suggestions! Upload some and you'll get better advise'

Deborah Butler, Brickwood Builders The reason you don't see all the cords is that provision has been made for running cables, wiring etc for the TV in the walls and the boxes are placed somewhere else in the room and are operated by radio frequency remotes. No wires, no visible boxes, no mess. Go to a local electronics store and they can help you plan your system.

You can always use built in bookcases or window seats or something next to the fireplace and store the boxes. Run wiring through the walls and repair the walls.

ASVInteriors I routed into the wall and covered it with a plastic flat casing flush with the wall and then painted it. Don't know what walls you have but for reinforced concrete (very common here) I would not recommend it but if you have softer walls such as dry wall it should be possible

feeny Well, for storage you can't beat built in shelving, and that hides all of the cords as well. But if built ins aren't an option, here's a solution I like:

artistwannabe I appreciate your help in telling me about wires and cable boxes but I guess that I am speaking for the people that do not have the cash to afford to have a contractor come in and cut into drywall in order to hide the cables. And the boxes across the room make me quiver with the thought of radio frequencies bouncing around everywhere. Its dangerous. There must be another, more inexpensive, and creative way. Currently I am TRYING to hide my cables behind a plant but nobody is getting fooled. :)

ASVInteriors Sorry for your dilemma. I understand how difficult it is to retroactively fix something but I suppose that is what keeps designers in business as well!

So basically you want to keep your wires to your TV from the media centre below it?

A wild solution would be to stretch some fabric or canvas over a wide rectangle of wood bits cut to fit the space between your TV and media centre with grooves cut into them through which you could pass your wires.Paint the canvas the same colour as your wall and hang it up! Watering your plant by the media area = not good! Could this possibly work until you get a better solution by another Houzzer?

Norm Walters Construction Inc. Your remotes are already bouncing radio signals. If there is a closet nearby an electrician can easily run the wires to that location, add an electrical outlet in the closet for the components, then go to Radio Shack and buy a repeater.

zenhome Agree with Norm Walters Construction solution.

artistwannabe All I have is the DVR and the router for internet. How can I put the componets in a closet? I won't be able to use my remote. Doesn't the remote need to connect to the DVR or is that the repeater that it will now be talking to.???But what about the wires behind the TV?

Norm Walters Construction Inc. This is what you want. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049642

You put one in an inconspicuous place near your tv and point your existing remote at it. The other one would go in the closet with your cable box and your dvr. You face the one in your closet at your dvr and cable box. When you operate your existing remote the one in the closet will flash the infrared signal to your components just as if you were pointing your remote at them.
