Monochromatic or Color??
I'm trying to figure out what to do with our living room. This is a renovated farm house. I'm usually one to immediately put color on walls, but am surprised at how attached I've grown to the white space. I love the white walls and original hardwood floors because it really says to me, "farm house." While I like the simplicity, I'm thinking colored accents. I'm drawn to light blues, creams, whites, even lilac shades, modern prints (ikat and even chevron, as long as the chevron isn't so bold and matches well with the rustic, simple feel - think Serena & Lily Bark Chevron window panels.) Please excuse the family in the photo. haha...

Dytecture I agree, nothing wrong with white walls. Perhaps add some colorful accessories.

solraven You're right. I love the color palette that you have started in this room. I have noticed that whenever I move, my taste changes to fit the new environment. Colors and furniture that looked amazing in one place, look all wrong, or need tweaking in the new place.

Often times all white/cream/beige rooms look sterile, but in your space, it looks serene and warm.

Joanna DobrzyƄska White walls look good :) Try to play with colorful accessories and fabrics - you can then attempt to stronger color accents to enliven the interior perfectly. Good luck :)

arianneken Oh wow, decoenthusiaste! Thank you for posting those inspirations, I mean seriously, perfect. Solraven, I agree, I usually think sterile, and right now I like what I've got so far to start with, but I know I'll need a pop of color soon :) Great responses and faster than I thought, thanks everyone! :)

Sara Morton Bright cushions that can be put on settees or floors for wee ones. Can use almost any colours as walls can take bright accessories. Bright red cushions, even gold lamps mix well.

Terri Symington, ASID Blue and cream is always a classic fresh color scheme... and one that does well with a modern country style. Benjamin Moore's "Summer Blue" is in a color range that goes great with the creams and whites and makes a good color guide for selecting accessories. Note: the color does not read correctly on my computer monitor... you have to see the color chip for better accuracy.

arianneken Sara, yes, I found a few poufs and floor pillows that I love, so I have that idea... I was kind of stuck which colors to go with... more warm tones - reds, oranges, yellows or the ones I gravitate toward, the cold, light blues, whites, cremes, etc. Maybe I'm confusing what I would want in my MBR vs. the LR. :)

lessismoore I think, when you have a "white room" that you can add and enjoy many colors. Blues go beautifully with oranges ... and yellows. With a white room, you can almost, with a bit of editing, use the whole spectrum and have it harmonize :)

olldbobbi The beauty of a white room is you can change your accessories and art, etc., with the seasons or holidays. It's perfect.

lessismoore I "cleaned out" and paired down 2 bookcases the other day, found a old Home/Garden magazine I've been stashing since '91 that featured a white on white beach cottage that just called to me. I doubt I'm going to acquire a beach cottage anytime soon, and yet, I'm still reluctant to part with it!

Sara Morton Like white but can use a touch of peach or touch of cream etc. A happy medium. Often depends on where the room faces, and when the sun shines, I wish. The colour can make the room.
