Large family room with cathedral ceiling, great view, fireplace and built-in for tv - looking for sugestions
The room is 20'x19' with 15' cathedral ceiling - opens to breakfast area and large kitchen - hardwood floors throughout, fairly formal trim details however we are casual people - we are looking to create something that feels serene, is comfortable, upscale casual. We would love to accentuate the view from the large Palladian window but face the dilemma of the built-in on the other side of the room with the tv and the fireplace on another wall - making us want to face three different directions - we just moved in so we have the luxury of being able to do any colors and get furniture to suit - this is our first post to the house community - thanks, in advance, for any advice

Barbara Griffith Designs The room can be a real conundrum, so I need to ask a few questions. Is this the main TV watching area for the house? How many will be watching TV at the same time on a usual basis?

All About Interiors LLC Hi
You are correct in stating you have 3 main focal points. I feel the best solution is a sectional which can also give the room a more causal feel, which is what you wanted. Put a console table behind the backs of the sectional and have a seperate seating area with 2 chairs and a table in between (infront of the fireplace. These will face the sectional. Your window will be to your left if facing the fireplace and when watching tv in the built in you can be on the other side of the sectional facing the tv. I would suggest an area rug to tie the seating areas in together. Window treatments that will soften up the largeness of the space and and bring your eye upward is a must. I hope this is helpful.

tkpeyton We don't watch a lot of tv here as a general rule....when family is over (we have a large extended family) we might all gather to watch a game or see photos from someone, etc. - this room is mainly for group conversation and a nice place to relax and enjoy the view - fireplace is natural gas so it's also nice to turn that on at times
