I need help decorating this room.
We are renting the house, so we are limited with what we can do. It has a "window" to the kitchen and an awkward door to nowhere (hot water heater). We already have a dining room, living room and family room. Help!

Urban Ideas Inc. I can see that it s a passage room. The initial approach taken by you, it is a good idea, just the size of table s wrong. You need a larger round table with a tall flower arrangement, some books and small accents to make it look like a nice foyer. if possible, throw a rug under the table to define the space.
Another option is to use that wall, besides the kitchen window for a nice console, like the picture attached (I have just done it for a client last week) and a center rug.
I personally prefer option number 1.
Good luck,
Laura

ASVInteriors Could you turn this into a library. Lots of bookshelves filled with books. You can even cover the kitchen window with one. Trusty IKEA billy to the rescue!!!!

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design It could be the "homework room" if you have children. You could close it off more from the adjacent living area with a folding screen covering part of the opening. It could be an office, or library as suggested above. Anyone yearning for a pool table? Craft room? Talk over with the family what kind of space they think is needed. Have fun searching used furniture stores for suitable furnishings once the decision of usage is made.

nononanna Lots of bookshelves, couple of wingback chairs, with a long librarry table in the middle - I think you'd use it a lot for all kinds of homework, projects, etc. This is a great spot!
