Need help decorating my living room....
We just moved in and im having a difficult time deciding what to do with a mantle that stretches across the room. I also dont like the sofa to the side because my husband and i like to snuggle on the sofa together and this arrangement is uncomfortable... any suggestions at all here?!?!

decoenthusiaste We need better, brighter pics to be much help. You could do a pair of starburst mirrors above the shelves that flank the TV/FP. Please add more pics here - don't open another post. Thanks.

decoenthusiaste Did you switch to a sectional or is that the old furniture? What is the actual furniture you're using here now? If it is the sofa and two chairs put the sofa in front of the tv with a larger area rug in front of it. The other two chairs can flank the sofa, angled toward the TV/FP. Put a table and lamp by each chair. I'd get a coffee table and eliminate the two hassocks. Starbursts on each side of TV. Shelves styled as 1/3 books (vertical and horizontal stacks,) 1/3 open space, 1/3 decor items.

heidinaustin the sectional pics are what from the previous owner, they just have better angles of the room. we just moved in and have no intention on keeping all the furniture in this room. one if the chairs is a chair and a half with an ottoman and another is an oversized red leather chair.

heidinaustin i hope these pics help you better understand what we are working with. the living room area shares a half wall with the formal living room which i also have no idea what to do with. The family/ living room opens to the breakfast table area and kitchen...

raeleemllr I would build shelving upward on either side of the tv and maybe inclose thew bottom half of shelving into cabinets. Put the couch right in front of it. On the back end of the couch use a sofa table so when you look at it from the kitchen it isn't just the back of a sofa. I would just keep one of the other chairs.

cypress For optimal TV viewing, float the sofa in front of TV (if it fits) then have your chairs face each other on opposite side walls. I don't there is room for both ottomans. Use one for a coffee table. Add a narrow console behind the sofa. As far as the fireplace is concerned, I think the mirrors flanking the TV as a previous poster suggested would look good. Your area rug should be a bit larger.
