This cottage got an updated kitchen by Allen Interiors & Design Center Inc. Tell us what you think.
We replaced the dated pine cabinets with Painted MDF cabinets, Silver Travertine Laminate Countertop, and a fantastic Backsplash.

Victor very nice job!

wyndyacre Fresh and bright! My own kitchen is about to get the same transformation...from 60's plywood cabinets to white Shaker, but with a cappuccino oak floor. Yours looks great!

Angela Himmer Nice job...but the ceiling fan and the table set is still outdated and doesn't match the new look

Ken Stottlemire_Richardson Well, since this is a cottage I'm thinking it's a vacation or second home. Perhaps a new kitchen table and chairs were not part of the budget. What about painting them white and/or distressing them? Maybe whitewash the ceiling fan blades? Looks great though!

trendesdesign Nice job. Budgets budgets budgets;-). Or the clients might just like the table ?

Marilyn Wilkie What did you do with the original cabinets?

linderella I like the cabinets but not too sure about the strange microwave set up or the ceiling fan/light combination. I agree an island with seating would have provided additional workspace and been a nice change from the dining table. However, if this eat-in kitchen is the only dining space in the home, I can see why the vintage dining set was saved.

Allen Interiors & Design Center Inc Thanks everyone for the great comments. Just to make things clear, we were responsible for the cabinet design and installation, countertop, backsplash and flooring. The after picture was taken when the cabinets were finished. We were not responsible for the table or ceiling fan.

cadaveria I like what you did, do you know what the flooring is...just curious!

cal34 Do not like. The heritage and country feel was not honored - it was destroyed by putting in pedestrial designs that are typical of the faddish masses. It doesn't look like much thought was placed into this - just stock elements purchased. It wouldn't have taken too much creativity to steamline the look and update it, open it up, while keeping the nod to its country hetitage. It's sd that knotty pine isn't "in vogue" right now as it is a endangered species and gorgeous if done well by updating with modern touches MHO

Elaine M. Rushlow C.K.D. Love the kitchen...not sure why they didn't fix the ceiling :( and I am sure over time they will get a new table *she hopes*

sandy671 YOU SAID UPDATED KITCHEN??? THEN... GET RID OF THE TABLE, CHAIRS AND TABLECLOTH!!!
Allen Interiors & Design Center Inc Sorry Sandy671 my mistake, I should have said updated Kitchen Cabinetry. The after photo was taken when we were finished installing the cabinetry. I am sure by now they have replaced the table, chairs and table cloth, along with the ceiling fan and new appliances.

fabia Nice transformation. Crisp against the old knotty pine.

cadaveria Where can i find this backsplash?

Deemer and Mercer Designs Really beautiful transformation. However, I would have opted to reuse, reface, and paint the pine cabinets rather than go with MDF cabinets. Solid wood is always better.

Interiors International, Inc. I love the lighter color it looks more like a cottage now than a cabin.

design & detail I actually like the new renovation of cabinets it gave the kitchen a new fresh clean look.
it even looks more spacious than before.regarding the table and chairs I would actually keep the chairs and the ceiling fan as they are and maybe just replace the table with a new white one to match the cabinets,FOR SURE no table cloth what so ever .I think this mixture of new and traditional will look good.

laurae1967 I am sorry to say that I'm not crazy about the redo. I would have painted and distressed the cabinets instead of installing what looks like Home Depot stock cabinets. Wide pine floors would have been more appropriate than the pale (stone?) floor. Not the right look for a cottage, in my opinion, and not much character compared to the original.

Amy Stanley It is very pretty but I too wish the knotty pine cabinets had been salvaged and painted. MDF doesn't hold a candle to the quality of the old pine cabinets. I am assuming this was the homeowners choice though. The table set could be painted out and distressed to give it a cottage feel. The fan is practical and doesn't stick out horribly it looks like brushed nickel so it blends with the decor, I really think the table set is making it more prominent.
