Boys bedroom travel theme
i'm wanting to use an old world map not on the walls but one the ceiling
i think that would be nice that way but need to know how to go about doing it. also thought about putting the directional compass on the floor. is this too much?

Belman Living LLC Either put a map on the ceiling or put the compass on the floor. Do not put too much on the floor and ceiling simultaneously. It will get too gaudy. So just do one of the two and do it well. Only then it will stand out and look good. Decide what you need to do and then you can get some good suggestions on the same. But ideally, both ceiling and floor should not be done.

Welcome Home designs I think it depends on the size of the map - a large map would look good on the ceiling- framed to look like it is in an inset. Otherwise a smaller map would look good as a headboard feature.
Post some pictures of the room so we get a better idea.

michigammemom Here's another travel themed idea with a compass rose painted around the light fixture.

Dytecture Depending on how the map is constructed, it could be applied similar to wallpaper but on the ceiling.

ASVInteriors Here is how a famous Parisian designer did it!
Decorators are used to wallpapering so it is the same procedure but using paper instead of wallpaper. You would need to check first for the glue, as some can bleed through into your map - which would be a pity.

mpoulsom I think you should combine the 2 as shown by michi and dytecture. Do the map on ceiling with the compass around the light fixture. That would be super cool!
