Need Help - Bathtub versus Shower
Doing a bathroom remodel in our 1927 home - 4 bedrooms / 3 full bathrooms (family home) and this is our only bathtub. Kids are growing out of the bathtub need and we plan to be in this house for quite some time now. I prefer the look of a walk-in shower, but understand the need for resale down the road to have a bathtub (and for those very few and far between times we want a bathtub). Thoughts??

Overland Remodeling & Builders I would highly recommend to keep the tub for the exact reason you said - resale.

Norm Walters Construction Inc. Depends on how long you are going to live there. It can always be converted back for resale.

kmkh You say that you have 3 full bathrooms, so only showers in the others? When are they due for renos and is there room to put a tub shower combination in one of them, especially the one that is the 'kids' or 'main' bath? Is this the room you are talking about? I would keep a tub in the kids bath, the other baths have your preference. I would think it wold be ok to go a few years without a tub if the plan is to reno one of the other rooms within a few years.

Stanton Designs-online design services Depends, if you are going to be there a while do what you want. I have the same situation actually, 1 bathtub but will be turning it into a walk in shower. I figured we will be here for a long while, if down the road we sell and no tub is a deal breaker, then I'll fix it.

jenniferdbray @ Kathy - yes, to clarify we have 3 bathrooms, 2 of which have walk in showers (master bath and guest bathroom) and the third is the tub/shower combo. This is the bath to be remodeled and is the "kids" bathroom (boys who are 9 and 5...so not really interested in baths anymore) and also the main bathroom for the house for visitors/guests. Looking at our design options, I think the bathroom would really open up and look better with a walk-in shower. @ Stanton Designs - this is the house we will most likely stay in through the kids moving out so quite some time. That said, we could easily have to remodel this bath again before selling! While I tend to be traditional in the sense that I feel a house should have a tub, we are contemplating re-doing the guest bath down the road and talked about the option of putting the tub there, so that we have a tub. Thanks for everyone's input!
