nFORMAL design First off, what bigger room are we looking at here? Is it a bedroom with a balcony attached? Since it's empty and unfurnished, it's hard to tell. Or is it an entryway? Also, are those some sort of screens leaning up against the wall? Maybe a long narrow piece of artwork would work if it's a bedroom or some shelves for storage. If it's an entry space, maybe put a small table with some plants or sculpture on top with artwork above to make the space feel more inviting when you come in. A rug in front of the door would help out. Try and provide a little more info so others will be able to chime in too.

Dytecture I would actually propose to remove that closet in order to open up the living room to the staircase below.

jansgirl What an odd little waste of space. I think nFORMAL has the right idea with a small table and artwork.

decoenthusiaste Yes, remove the closet, adding railing and incorporate that small space - perhaps as a spot for some plants that would appreciate the light from the window.

cath99 Hi
I agree with all your comments about removing the closet. However, this is my main ''entry'' closet. I dont have one downstair. It is only a staircase.

Arlene Warda, Architecture+Interior Design A custom built-in window bench would be nice it could even extend a little past the window. Or you can have some one build it free standing so it is not part of window.

brickvilla I was thinking of a cozy reading nook. Use a lounge chair or chaise. A simple shelf and a mirror to expand on the 4ft wall and artwork on the 6ft wall. That window sill would be perfect to place a cup of tea or something.

Interiors by Kristina I would place there floor mirror or use tile 12X12 on 4' wall and scenic wall paper in 6' wall. Some scenic kits are images of bookcases. You can get them in Lowe's, Benjamin More or on line. You will need pro to install it. My idea is not creative. Just another variation of proposed by Arlene and brickvilla use of space.

ddrc some people would build a book shelf from top to bottom on the six foot wall. i would put a wall table there to throw my keys down on a tray. could lay the mail there too. have a lamp on the table. a
mirrow above the table. on the four foot wall you could have big family pictures or a tall mirror that goes
close to the floor and have the pictures over the table. pretty curtains. you could try a reading nook. you could put a curio cabinet at the end to light up at night and still use the hall table to put things on. i like
that area. also love the closet. a must. i could not do without mine. it will look fine whatever you choose.
