What to do with this fireplace?
We are in the midst of renovating our cottage at the lake. I want to know the best (and least expensive) way of upgrading/covering this fireplace to a modern look. (Besides painting). My color scheme will be whites/blue/greens/etc all about the beachy look. Should I just tile over it, or what I really want is the wood panels to have it be ultra modern. Can you suggest anything? I am so bad at making a decision.

LizaJane It looks like the fireplace is close to the kitchen. Because the kitchen has lots of wood, I would er on the side of tile or venetian plaster. Remove mantle as well.

Matt Patterson Custom Homes I dislike brick fireplaces. I usually tile over them with travertine. Cheap & beautiful.

Gerry Brown Tile or reface it with tile or wood. It just doesn't need to be white. That's too dull in there.
