Need help designing this room
Please help! This is how it was staged. Love the idea of a breakfast nook, but it can"t take over the whole room. I need to get more seating in here, in front of TV. Any ideas for layout?

AMN Wow. Is it really meant to be a living room? That's what it looks like. Can you provide some context by including a few more pics of the adjacent rooms and more angles within this one?

Just reply to this same thread and attach pics to your reply. Thank you.

koehlej I am still confused. Is this your main living room or do you just want to have a breakfast area? Why is the TV in there? Do you need it there?

laurienj9 No, there is a family room. I need a table here, otherwise the only place to eat is a formal dining room. They had it staged with TV but I like the idea of this room doing double duty-- my hubby and i can watch TV in family toom, and the kids could watch in here. I just don't know how to make it all work.

A small table that will fit four plates. Two chairs for you and hubby. Two folding chairs to pop up at supper for the kids. Maybe a bench or serving table where the plant is now.

tennisanyone Do you have a separate dining room or is this it?

tennisanyone Is that a hallway by the plant? Can't tell.

laurienj9 yes there is a separate dining room-- but i don't see us eating there everyday. way too formal

laurienj9 it is a weird extra space that i plan to have a contractor come and build a closet there because there is no closet on this floor!

decoenthusiaste What's behind the TV wall, a foyer? The space looks to be a dining room adjoining the kitchen. You don't have to use it as it was staged. I would put the TV elsewhere and hang a beautiful drum chandy above a nice dining table.

laurienj9 and there's a bathroom across from the plant

laurienj9 bathroom behind a tv wall
so no one is loving the breakfast nook idea? There is already a formal dining room in this house. I want this to be a family space

koehlej I think the loveseat/bench is too chunky. If you can do a built-in bench that doesn't take up that much space and use an oval/rectangle instead of a round table it would fit much better, I think. In terms of chairs you could do less formal and more modern/cozy ones.

laurienj9 agree this bench is too chunky. I was looking at the ones from ballard and thinking of pushing them up against the back corner. so the bench would end at the window. then i might have room for 2 swivel chairs to go in front of TV

tennisanyone I like the breakfast nook idea. Is this a place for homework?
laurienj9 yes exactly, this is the place i envision homework, kids hanging out while i am cooking, a real family space

tennisanyone Yes the round table is wrong. I was thinking a rectangle table

nancy22032 Since so many of us like to eat on the sofa while watching tv, why not put a love seat there for ma & pa next to a low oval table with hassocks for the children. After dinner, the children could watch tv from the love seat and adults could have the family room for the evening. Or the children could use the table for homework at any time with the tv off. I would like a colorful rug to delineate the nook area. This would give you the casual eating area you want.

itsjena here's a couple photos from a thread a couple weeks ago; some neat ideas for you?
Melanie Hon I love itsjena's idea of the built-in banquette. Ditch the TV.

rockyrocky7 Agree with built in. I would add a corner shelving piece left of tv and hang the tv on the wall
