Should I or Shouldn't I?
I'm wondering if i should put something above the television in the empty space or just leave it? If i should, what ideas do you have?

bfergie Why do people put their tv over a fireplace?...seems oh so "in" these days but I think it detracts from the fireplace as well as not conducive to relaxing while watching because of craning the neck..
I would take the tv and move it elsewhere and then put something beautiful above/on the mantle.

AMN Nothing should go above the television.

Decoration/art/accessories are for the benefit of the humans inhabiting the space. And, since most of us are under 8 feet tall, keep the decorative elements off of super-high spaces like this.

dreaw80 I have my T.V. Above the fireplace and in my living room it is the only place we had room for it by the layout of the rest of the home. We love it, with that said, I think some sort of sculptural feature would be a nice touch like the one shown here from Sarah Richardson's Farmhouse, featured on Sarah's House on HGTV.

ciaralouise Thanks for your input though bfergie on what you would want but this is something that we chose because it suited our wants. We all think differently!

ciaralouise Agreed dreaw80. We have large windows on the adjacent walls and were limited to tv placement. We also love it. It works well in our open concept home!

sooneralumom I agree sculptural or metal could work- just not another rectangle to avoid a stacked look.

The Color People A TV over the fireplace becomes a shrine and commands the attention of everything else in the room. Move it to an ancillary location and watch your life change!
