"grown up" decor for 8yo girl's room
She doesn't want a kids room. She likes black. She has a big French black armchair. The ceilings are beautiful and the window has shutters. We want to make this room elegant but with some colour. We were thinking wallpaper on one wall. But how to match wallpaper with that chair, and a rug, and get colour in, and make it fun...??

Suggestions?

ASVInteriors How about black and white stripes - never can go wrong - and you can add a touch of irony to it
By the way this season IKEA are doing great black and white accents (so cheap and cheerful)

carolins I love your daughter's style!
How about: making the wall behind the headboard a feature wall by painting it (off)black and adding wall stickers like these trees and birds from Etsy.
Tree Wall Decal Wall by NouWall

There is also wallpaper that has trees on it, black&white.

Paint the brown furniture either beige (very chic with black & white), white, black or in a pop-colour like lime green, orange or fuchsia pink if she likes that. The rest of the walls in an (off)white.
Can you centre the bed on that wall? Somewhere where the gorgeous chair is now? Or does she like to sit on her bed, leaning against the wall? In which case I'd add some cushions. And a rug in front of the bed.

carolins Sorry, this is just too much fun :-) So I 'shopped' for some pink accessories/lamps and curtains too.
Felt Flower Decorative Pillow
Heart It Pillow Cover, Pink
Fanella the Flamingo

Groovy Discs Accent Lamp
Hi-Light Task Lamp
Sheer Flocked Dot Window Panel - Pink

Will hopefully give you and your daughter some ideas. You can add just almost any colour (yellow, or orange, or.... in stead of pink) and mix every style.

nancy22032 Love the idea of the Paris theme wall mural. Painting the brown furniture a must. Add the groovy discs accent lamp to night stand for just a little color. Can you cover the headboard in an exciting print?

eztia adncnsn,
What are your thoughts and your daughter's thoughts about these ideas?
I am wondering if your daughter has another room in the home for her toys?

adncnsn Intersting ideas. First: pink is definitely out. Her little sister has pink and that's way too childish for this one..

I like the feature wall idea. But she thinks the idea of a totally different colored wall is weird. I will keep working on that! She is interested in the tree decals from etsy. Thanks for that one.

Toys are in another room. The bedroom will eventually include a desk, but not yet.

adncnsn And she has her eye on a repro Van Gogh painting, so we will see if we can get the feature wall or tree decals to echo one of the couloirs in that, and in cushions as well. Then then rest of everything incl rug can be black and white.

Pics to follow.

And yes, that brown furniture has to go!!

carolins Those trees are fantastic! Love them. And they all go so well with the Van Gogh painting. Beautiful choice. Will you be keeping us posted? I love this project and would like to see the finished result. I'm sure you and your daughter are well capable of choosing the tree and colour for the walls etc. :-)
