DIAspoton the lights are beautiful. what is the room used for? do you have any furniture,rugs, accessories now? looks like a very dark floor going in?
what colors do you gravitate towards? bold. bright. solids.patterns. calm and restful. monochromatic.
give the houzzers a few hints .

rawketgrl Neat lights. What is your plan for the baseboards? If you wanted a current look the molding/baseboards would be white. Walls light gray. Floor dark. Sparkly lights.

It really just matters what your style is....

If you are looking for another look like seashore cottage, light blue walls.If you are going for a urban chic look try a dark Khaki or another Ralph Lauren color etc....

joanne1725 The room runs off the kitchen so it's used a dining room. I have a large walnut table and six high backed leather chairs. I'm pretty boring and always go for cream walls. Hoping to be a little more daring.

gingerclaire Do you have any art or area rugs already that we need to work around, or can we go crazy? Is there a particular look that you are aiming for?

Do you use your dining room for everyday dining, or mostly for entertaining?

joanne1725 The room is used most weekends for entertaining. But not used through the week. I don't have anything to work with rugs etc. I need to buy new. My table is not easy to get to, to take a photo. Here's one of the six chairs. Starting from scratch really after a burst pipe.
