Tiny foyer
Our house is a small brick colonial. Although it does have a foyer entrance, it's tiny. I'm thinking of painting the facing wall a more dramatic shade (deeper) than the medium tone of khaki it is now. The foyer opens up to a staircase and into the living room. The foyer walls are the same shade as the living room with a palate of creams, khaki and shots of cobalt blue in accessories and trim, as well as, neutral textures. Do I make that foyer wall deeper for accent or am I bringing it too close to the eye coming in the front door?

ASVInteriors Of course to really help us see it, a photo would be great.
However, if you have a small foyer going dark would be fine as long as you have a focal point that leads you into the lighter living room. Without that you are entering a dark zone which will be difficult for practical things such as finding keys, coat colours, etc etc...

tweakers Thanks for the quick response! It's cloudy here right now, or I'd snap a photo and include. The foyer is fairly bright, so no worries on darkening with paint. After I posted the question of a deeper khaki, I thought of a deep blue hue to announce the accents in the adjacent living room. Any further comments I would welcome.

ASVInteriors Well you're preaching to the converted for dark hues - which are upcoming trends..

I think that would be a lovely idea...

tweakers First photo shows wall in question, second and third showing proximity of staircase and living room. You truly cannot swing a cat in this space! But I'll go for charm over cavern anytime!

tweakers Had not received further comments after adding photos of foyer wall in question. Would welcome further comments on painting the mirror wall a deep shade of blue. An added help would be a specific paint suggestion from a professional. Thanks.

Ironwood Builders Tweakers, ASV is posting out of Switzerland. There are some major time zone differences to take into account. She also has a family...and it's the weekend. Have patience! She is a top poster and will get back to you.

tweakers I am aware of anybody's time, especially as an outside sales rep. My photos were posted on Feb 24th.

ASVInteriors Sorry not to have gotten back. Busy week and sometimes the posts disappear under the others.
I like the idea of the dark blue that matches your gingham chair in the living room. Your foyer has enough cream to counteract the dark blue and I love your gold framed mirror and accents. They will not only take the blue it will really make them look stunning. I cannot see the exact colour of your armchair, but that is the colour you should match rather than the blues in your chinaware.
I use farrow and ball paints but if you are in the US I believe Benjamin Moore and sherwin Williams paints might have colours that could match, and are of a professional quality grade.

Lynn, thanks for your input.... I think burgundy or black could also fit the bill, but blue would be my first choice as a precursor to entering the living room.

tweakers No apology needed! I only posted again as it had been several days since I put in the foyer photos to help, and I was afraid I was lost in the Frey!
You are telling me just want I wanted to know and felt to be the best look for me, that being the blue.
I truly appreciate all your comments and suggestions.
The good part is, that wall is such a small area, if I don't like my first paint, it can be changed without too much time.
Your professionalism is truly appreciated.

tweakers And to Lynn! Thank you too, I didn't know who would respond to me, don't know the inner workings of Houzz.

I loved your input, especially the black. Would love to use black, but in this area my heart felt the blue most appropriate.
Funny you had mentioned black, because I've really been paying attention to that on walls, just don't think my house has the right place for it to look right. I do use touches of black in accents throughout my little house. For instance the black lacquer on my rush seated Hitchcock chairs around my dining room table.

You and ASVinteriors dovetail well with my little house!

Thanks so much.
