Maryl Hershelman Unless you live in a year round hot climate I would think tile flooring would be cold....if you're planning on actually cooking in your kitchen as well it is very hard on the feet...although you could put those foam mats all over where you are planning to stand. Go with hardwood....the real thing.

lola32 I have already made the decision of tile/travertine since the rest of the house is going to be hardwood.Looking for someones ideas for colour options for flooring. The house is going to be open concept tile/travertine in kitchen, main entrance and down hallways leading to bedrooms.Kitchen cupboards are espresso with alaska white granite countertop.

Maryl Hershelman Sounds like you will be so sick of that in about three years...but that's what Lowe's or IKEA is hoping for. Sounds so 00's...good luck.

lola32 It is obvious from your comments that you have hardwood flooring in your kitchen.Sorry but that look for me just does not work for me.Again i am looking for TILE/TRAVERTINE colour suggestions. Everyone has different tastes in what they like and it is obvious we don't have the same.

Maryl Hershelman I don't have hardwood floors in my kitchen...but Travertine is now standard for house flipping like Berber carpeting...if you're going to remodel every time trends change then keep up with what's up and coming...not here and gone.

lola32 I don't remember anywhere on my post asking if something is trendy or not.Looking for COLOUR suggestions that you obviously are unable to give.Maybe you need to read the post closer. And fyi travertine flooring is a look that is classy and will never go out of style.

sam0705 I looked up your granite and I thought this travertine used as a backsplash may go - i love this kitchen

Maryl Hershelman "classy" ? really? did you really say "classy"?.... mutual I'm sure. Choose a tile that is close in tone to your hardwoods then you're not fighting separate chunks of space...should flow more.

Lizabeth Hi Roman 32

Your granite looks lovely, I was just at stoneyard yesterday myself. So you have espresso cabinets. Can you post a photo/? What color is the hardwood< species of wood? stain? Do you have a photo of that?

Certainly travertine can work but it all has to meld. Photos of your finishes would help.

lola32 Hi Lizabeth

Thank you, unfortunaltely i do not have any pictures to post.It is a new build so i am trying to put everything together myself. Our builder has a walnut travertine that he wants us to go with, but i am not sure if it blends well with the counter top. I was unsure if i had to match hardwood/floor or countertop and floor. Our hardwood is called palace maple by elegance(engineered). It looks distressed with brown and gold.We are putting it in family room/dining/bedrooms.Any floor suggestions?(porcelin/or travertine.

lola32 Hi Maryl,

Finally on the same page! That is what i was unsure of,if i had to match hardwood with floor or counter with floor. So sounds like the walnut travertine and my hardwoods may work well together, but i was still looking for other suggestions as per different colours of floor that also may work well.

Lizabeth roman32, You do have to think about everything in the house. how it flows, and what colors the eye takes in at the same time.

Yes floor and counters must work in harmony and to two floors that meet must not clash.

I strongly suggest you pay a good designer a fee to assist you in your color, texture surface palate choices. Getting it wrong will be much more painful to your eye and your pocketbook in the future.

Julie Abshire I think brick floors would look very nice and "spice" up the kitchen and also flow with the wood floors throughout the house. This look would go great with a copper or black iron pan holder hanging from the ceiling over your island to hang/display pots and plans.
The color of the brick will allow you to add other colors.
I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL! I'm sorry in advance if I offered advice that you were not asking for :)
I'm from the New Orleans area so my style of decor may be completely different than yours..
