I have golden oak trim in my house to paint or not ?
All I read from designers here is to paint all the oak trim, do you think painted wood is just a fad and wood trim eventually will come back ?

rinqreation The right amount of wood is timeless. My opinion.

Vivian Rase Do you have an historic home? If so, it would be a shame to paint the wood.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I do not think that white trim will fade in popularity. It is such a clean look, making walls of any color more interesting, that it will endure.

cheryldalluhn No not historic at all , built in '99. but we do have built ins and raised panel doors. It seems though so many designers and people on the houzz forums are saying the oak is so dated- which makes me wonder will painted trim become dated also ???

Ironwood Builders It is the smaller profiles and the "golden" oak that is dated. Victorians and Arts &Crafts homes, with the quarter sawn oak and deeper stain colors, larger trim and details are historic. Some can't stand the look, but it is now timeless, not trendy. The same is true for traditional white painted interiors...think of the interior views on TV and in the movies of the White House. White painted trim on an interior is also not a trend, but timeless. But, as Mies Van de Rohe said, "God is in the details". He was so cutting edge that his stuff of 50+ years ago is still considered modern. But the details of anything count....so dinky baseboards are dinky. Even oak dinky baseboards are dinky.

Vivian Rase I concur with @Ironwood...dinky is dinky.
White trim is here to stay. If the oak isn't substantial enough to make a statement then by all means go with white. You would likely tire of any other color.
