What color to paint wall for black and white kitchen?
I guess the obvious answer is white, but I love the contrast of light against dark. I'm getting high gloss abstrakt ikea cabinets lining both sides of a galley kitchen, and a black ceramic tile floor (not yet decided on polished or honed - leaning toward polished, but maybe too much gleam with the high gloss cabs? but I LOVE the look of shiny floors...
Black quartz countertops, either with flecks of dark blue or silvery white. I'm also doing the bathroom black and white, and that will have silvery grey walls. Don't think I want to repeat that in the kitchen, hence the dilemma. Opinions?

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Watch out for those black floors in a polished finish. They may be slippery and for sure they will show everything! Consider instead a charcoal colored tile with some mottling. Benjamin Moore's color of the year, lemon sorbet, could brighten your walls.

hly2002 Thanks, Carolyn - I probably should heed all the warnings I've been receiving about a solid black floor, but every time I see the tile I am so smitten - and it's not like there's ever much traffic in my kitchen, other than me...I hardly ever wear shoes at home, and I've been assured the tile I have my eye on is non-slip. I had been thinking about gold or yellow, and will look at the lemon sorbet - will also look again to see if I can find a mottled black, sort of a reverse carrera - so far I've had no luck.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I'm thinking of something like the tile shown below. On any tile you buy, you should check the slipperiness level of it yourself. I try to always carry a bottle of water with me when I'm looking for floor tile for a client. I sprinkle some water on the tile sample and step barefoot onto it to test it myself.

ASVInteriors You are a person after my own heart!!! Just having this same discussion for a kitchen re-design I might be doing.
I would go for matte black to set out the brilliant white of the cabinets. For the floor, can you get inexpensive river rock - or sliced river rock?

Katie Anderson Design Consultants - CCIDC #6679 A somewhat bright yellow or citrus/persimmon orange would make a very cheerful contrast with the black counter tops. If you are really adventurous something in the pink tones is a fresh color as well with black & white.
