Living Room Design - Please help!
We just a home and need advice for furniture for this space. Its 10 x 12, long wall has the window (added pic - the furniture is not ours in the photo). There is no wall opposite the window, it is open to the rest of the house. The furniture could extend into that open space if needed. I have a palliser india sofa in an off-white (see pic)...not sure if I should use it or start fresh. Love armless sofa/love seats (see idea in pic). Want the space to be cozy, elegant. And looking for advice for rug size as well. Thanks to anyone who can lend some advice ;)

decoenthusiaste Looks like you have privacy out back. I would hang window-flanking drapery panels on a decorative rod mounted just where the side walls and ceiling break is. Use your sofa in the window, with a large coffee table and two or three armless accent chairs. Here's a pretty room...

Krista Hickey So, back of sofa to the window - is that what you mean? That is something I did not consider!

inkwitch Lovely architecture. LIke you sofa, too. Armless sofas tend to appear less bulky so they are good in a tight space. Your iving room isn't that much s/f, but it certain has a lot of volume!

It seems a shame to block any of that window/view with furniture. If the room is wide enough, your sofa would create a seating area facing the window. Two chairs and a coffee table (round, possibly glass). The area rug should be big enough for all the front legs of all seating to be on it. Furniture should be pulled within chatting distance, not cramed into corners. That does not make a room look larger, but smaller.

decoenthusiaste's suggestion about draperies works. Something in silk shantung for it's wonderful sheen and elegance.

That chandy is way too high and is uesless up there. Get an electrician to lower to within 8-9 feet of the floor, and frankly, I'd change it out to something more "airy," if that makes sense.

It would be helpful to see what's at the other end of the room, and whether any upper floors overlook this space. You're going to have so much fun!

Krista Hickey The other side of the room has no wall and is open to the main area. The stairs face the room. I added a pic to show that area. We are not in the house, so I am limited for photo angle. In the pic, you can see the blue chair that is also shown in the main room.
