Impossible wall color compromise?
My husband and I are decorating our first home. We have a small budget and already own all our furniture so have to work with what we have for the most part.

Our problem is that my husband wants COLOR on the walls. As colorful as possible. No gray. No tan. No greyish in any way. We have a dark red traditional couch (all our furniture is traditional/antique dark wood), 2 olive green tapestry chairs, and a subtle gold upholstered chair. The carpet is neutral.

I cannot for the life of me come up with a wall color that works with these pieces and satisfies my husband's desire for color on the walls. I've tried to talk to him about a neutral color on the walls and splashes of color in the furnishings, but nothing doing.

feeny What about either a nice olive (with a touch of gray in it, but don't tell him that) or a nice warm golden tone? Both can be quite neutral, but you don't have to emphasize that.

Dove Cochrane Cypress from Frazee, depending on the time of day it looks golden to moss. It's a color alternative to gray.
Good luck and happy decorating

sam0705 I Love the last pic posted by feeny really shows what you can do with that color if your tastes or accessories change

Amy Avetta He would say all of those are too neutral, too gray. Except for the sage green, which I'm leaning toward.

rawketgrl You have a vintage blanket color scheme: sky blue, rust, putty, pomegranate red, pale gold, olive green.

Pick blues to tie it all together. Show him samples of sky blues with gray in them. They look blue but read gray and should help tie the dark red, olive green and gold colors together.

Benjamin Moore Paints:
1. Ashby Blue
2. Lookout point
3. Palladian Blue
4. Soft Sky

Good luck!
