Want to lighten it up, modernize, but hopefully not pull out the redwood...

I personally love the redwood! looks like a man cave so I would throw the blue out and reve it up with a bar seating area under the back TV and a leather sectional in the front area with an interesting area rug maybe in reds or rusts and more lighting.

Some other rug and couch in lighter color would make a huge different. Art on the wall or pictures also would help to break up the redwood, which is pretty nice.

The orange thing is, of course, a sauna/environmental chamber..

Gorgeous! Please don't do anything to the redwood! I'm curious as well to know what the orange/red section is, since I see a tv near it. Could see a gray or gray green rug, even something like a shag or something else with some texture but softness. Could see some great modern pieces of furniture in offwhite - the color of your chair, something upholstered and with texture. A patterned graphic fabric on chairs, perhaps even a black and white or cream and white with orange accents. Could see adding some metal with the coffee table and other tables, given the modern paint of the ? in the orange. One direction would be to take the mod accents of the orange and go just offwhite, black, black and white graphic, and orange with metal accents. You could use a metal table under the television or the bar semihugger suggested.

Just saw your answer re: the sauna - in that case you DO need a bar - with cold drinks of course! What a fun room!
