ASVInteriors I have seen these done as ply board customized boxes that are painted over. Nowadays they come in a plasticized foam, plastic and many other forms (see below):

Depends what you are doing but a solution can range from sticking cardboard boxes on a wall and painting them (not a long term or professional solution) but ok for a kids room;
Ordering them - they are called 3-d board; or having them customized by a carpenter for your needs.
